Sometimes it's the unseen things that bring satisfaction. For probably 3 years now, the dreaded Td5 "squeak " has announced my arrival every time I turn off the engine.SQUEEK!
There's no sneaking home late at night being unheard. Every time I stop to fuel up, I tun heads fro the wrong reason. SQUEEK! I've delayed it long enough....but I want to spend money on FUN stuff....not things that don't improve performance, or comfort, or aren't some sort of upgrade... Well, I bit the bullet, had it changed. It's so strange to not have that familiar announcement of my arrival, for the first day it almost felt as if something was wrong. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Harmonic balancer (crank damper).
The rubber ring between the center pulley and outer steel ring starts to wear. When you stop the engine, the inner (or outer) slips on the rubber and it squeaks..... almost more like a chirp. All a distant memory now it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

I had it done at my local shop. Too busy and pre-occupied with other things to figure it out.
From what I seem to recall, the main bolt is often to get off. Pretty sure you need to pull the rad fro easier access. If you have a hoist, you can approach from the underside with a big breaker bar... For me, it was money well spent to get it done. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |
