If you go for the double din then also consider the depth of the unit as some need parts being moved/massaged behind the dash that you donโt see like heater ducts etc.
The single din have to open out so block the hazzard switch when open, something that I donโt like, hence I am in the process of selecting a double din unit. Though which one yet I donโt know, tempted by the alpine 702D but itโs quite an old unit so man thinking is there will be a new version as soon as I buy one. So I have the conversion kit but at present no actual radio. Pioneer are also put in a lot but quite $$$ then you have JVC and kenwood that are basically the same, but they also have slim units that fit easilly. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

The main expense from what I can see is the double din facia, they ca be about ยฃ200.
So you need to factor that onto the price of the double din. If you google double din facia for defender you will see different ones depending if you have a tdci or a earlier dash Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing. 5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

1 & 2 DIN are single or double.
2 Din requires dash cutting. 1 DIN doesnโt personal choice really. I have a 1 DIN Pioneer AVH 7200DAB. It does everything I could possibly want.  $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
