Punchy....
Very pretty though- to my untrained eye this looks absolutely perfect but I await the expert to point out the flaws.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224184427319

Nice (and unusual) to see one that hasn't been cut for indicators. The advertisement is wrong, though, it's 1997cc not 2286.

That really is very desirable, and quite close by as well!

Yes a lovely thing, probably one of the best unrestored Series Ones I have seen. As others have mentioned for complete originality the rear lights would need changing and being a real pedant the front spark plug cap, the bonnet has been drilled to accept the washer nozzles and the canvas looks new but other than that I’m struggling to find anything that’s not original. Given some of the over restored stuff that’s advertised I know which I would have.

Not much that you can do regarding the screen washers really, since their fitment is one of the few pieces of retrospective legislation. Whilst you still don't need wipers and washers if you can obtain "an adequate view to the front" without looking through the windscreen, which is generally interpreted as meaning a windscreen which can be opened without tools and without dismantling any of the vehicle structure, the law requires that if you have wipers whether required or not you must have washers as well. Although there are many old vehicles which don't have both (my own 80" has one wiper and no washer, for example) they are technically illegal as a result.

The nice thing about the SI in this thread is that at least the washers are appropriate for the year in which they became a requirement, although it is curious that it has two jets but only one wiper. The rear lights are to my mind the only let down, and replica pork pies are now available. The tilt will look better when it has shrunk to fit and mellowed a bit. I'm not sure what happened to the wing mirror(s) but that's easily sorted.

If I had the space and the readies I'd definitely be after this one, it's genuinely exceptional.

So wry observations along the lines 'what the market will pay' aside...what's it worth? Where are original S1s priced in a normal (is there such a thing?) market?

There was another, I think it was an 86in for sale in London a year or so ago a couple of grand cheaper and from memory was as original as this. It popped up on ebay several times and not sure it sold. My sons 86in which I passed on to him is a nice straight vehicle. It had a repaint some 30 years ago and the tailgate and the wiring loom was new, it’s now mellowed into a nice thing. It has period accessories such as a front winch and rear PTO with belt drive etc all in working order. That has agreed value insurance of £25K.

Mrs H said I could get it.....if it was £10k. Now I can remember when Mike Brewer was thin (and his patter was no better then), but that would be a stretch even for him.

As far as I recall this one cost me £500 in 1984, which was a fair price then. It all original except for the rear cross-member which was a Series II type and the rear lights which were modern units including indicators. I imagine that it is worth quite a bit more now.
