United Kingdom 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black
LED bulb for interior lights
The bulb in the rear of my 2009 USW died so I thought why not replace with an LED

Got this from ebay Item number 163631838485

Advertised as
Interior Light x2 CREE Chip LED 15W Upgrade Bulb Land Rover Defender 90 110
Lumens: 250 (standard bulb is 50 Lumen)

It is dimmer than a firefly sitting on the roof lining.

Any decent ones out there?

Did you try turning the bulb around in the interior light fitting to see if it’s any brighter?
I think some of these LED bulbs are sensitive to which way round they are fitted.

I’m sure someone on here will be along to provide a better explanation soon.

speaking of interior LEDs, how easy is it to replace the dashboard lights, especially the one behind the aircon controls? --

I've got these fitted and whilst not the cheapest, they are brilliant:

Thanks all, will try the Forby ones.

The Conrad Electronics ones are no longer available. I did try and source those before I got my current ones as I did a search on here.

Why don't you have a look at the mudstuff led light. Ok it's expensive but works a treat and you can change between white and red also.

^^^ I did this, just because I'd tried one of the cheap LED 'panels' in the original fitting before, and while it worked OK, it had some odd behaviour - glowing after being switched off and sometimes staying on. Probably an earth fault somewhere.

But - to get back on topic - when I dropped and refurbed the roof lining I thought I'd try the MUD ones. I thought the red light would be a bit of a 'gimmick' that I wouldn't actually use much, but it's become the default setting so that when I switch it on, I don't get the "ouch" factor of bright white light. Particularly because we live in a semi-rural area with quite low levels of external light.

Then if I find I need to, I can always put the white on. Anyway, I find I use the red light more often which has been a bit of a surprise. Donald

Ah, that's a shame. Useful to know, though. Darren

For anyone interested, Classic Car LEDs (a lot of us including me have bought their headlight LEDs) also sell the festoon lights for about £2 delivered

I have obtained two, they seem a little shorter than the original but the contacts on the light fittings can be pushed forward to grip the bulbs

I’ve just grabbed a pair from the Classic Car guys; much brighter and they do the dimming thing when you lock it.

My advice would be to disconnect the battery before attempting the job. I know it’s best practice, but I didn’t bother and managed to blow the fuse (which annoyingly feeds the radio too, so need to dig out the code).

The bulbs are shorter, but I bent the prongs so it fits nicely. 2011 CSW XS 90
