Td5 Wipers
Hello Hello,

Recently my drivers side windscreen wiper started to play up went from working fine then gradually got weaker then intermittent working and not working and now no movement at all! It’s not seized as I can move the wiper manually! I get the feeling maybe a spline has been stripped?

If this was the case I presume access it by removing dash/dials!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Chris

Assuming that the passenger side wiper is still working correctly, will most likely be the wheel box that has stripped. Quite a common problem and isn’t difficult to swap. Does require the top panel of the dash to be removed as well as the instrument binnacle

Great thanks for your help!! I’ve never taken a dash apart to this extent before! Can you tell me where about is the wheelbox? I’ve got the top part of the dash away and also all the dials! Do I need to remove the vent for blower to windscreen?

Thanks

Is this the wheelbox? The rod is still moving

It’s looks to me that it’s the mechanism underneath rather than the actual wheel

Wiper rack? PN DLE000010. Rather easy fix if that is the culprit. Thumbs Up 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

The main culprits tend to be the wheel boxes becoming stiff with corrosion over time then either seizing or wearing excessively on the gear that drives them- and eventually binding up on the rack.

Sometimes you can be a wee bit sneaky and flip the gear wheels through 180 degrees to drive on the non-worn section.

They are a relatively easy, but faffy fix requiring a fair amount of dismantling of the dashboard.
If you are going to go to the effort of changing them its worth doing the rack as well- and inspecting the gearbox on the motor.

Edit: there are splines on the spindles and the wiper arms, if these have been slack then they can sometimes wear so the wiper just rotates freely.

Regards

Chris

I agree with Chris, if you’re going to the hassle of dismantling your dash that much to swap one you may aswell change both and the rack for peace of mind.

I think that there are some good Youtube videos on the subject and LRO International did a good article about it. Jeff
