Thanks for the info, I may take it out later and see if it will engage at all. Will post back here if I have any luck. Although with a faulty clutch switch and 1.2 gears I’m not that optimistic

The clutch switch will not be the problem but the 1.2 box will as the ecu compares the speed with the revs I believe. A slipping clutch will cancel the CC. Roel

Yes, I have heard though that sometimes it works in 4th with a 1.2. We’ll see.
EDIT: Went for a drive yesterday, hit the set switch in 4th and 5th and it wouldnt engage. The nanocom was showing the set button was working so my wiring is correct but no luck yet... Next job speedohealer. |

Unplugging the clutch switch prevents cruise control from engaging (well, it does on mine).
You can change the ratio calculations in the ECU to allow cruise to work with different gear, or use a speedo healer between the speedo and ECU 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Thanks grafty. I’ll order a clutch switch just in case then. Do you know if you need to bleed the clutch when you change it or can you get away with just swapping it?
Can I change the ratios in the ecu via the nanocom or does it need to be done in the map itself? Last question is it clear how to wire the speedohealer between the ecu and speedo? Is it in the official instructions so to speak or will I have to seek help on here to know which wires I’m tapping into? Thanks |

I have my clutch switch not connected, just unplugged and my CC works. AFAIK If you press the clutch pedal the sensor makes connection to earth. So disconnecting the clutch pedal connector is the same as never pressing the pedal down. So even if your clutch sensor has failed disconnecting the cable will fix the problem. Roel

Be interesting to know if yours engages. Do you have a nanocom to see the switch inputs?

Ok! So its all wired in properly and works, well I say works. The Nanocom responds accordingly when the CC master is turned on/off. Also responds to the set function (stationary, keys in stage 2)
However test drive no joy. I will have to adjust the ratios in the ecu, however thats done! Instagram @defender_ventures Empire Tuning - Agent |

Depends on what software you use but it should be under the gearbox tab and valid gear ratios. You need to work it out for your gearing and tyres but the valid ratio scalars end up being about 41 (from 32 ish) for 5th and to 35 (from about 29) for 4th. I worked it out for 3rd 4th and 5th as those were realistically the only gears you'd be likely to set it in 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I don't understand what tyre size has to do with the CC.
The ECU doesn't know the real vehicle speed, it just know the engine revs and the speed counter on the transfer box output. As long as they are in line it should work. MY CC works on my 35" tires but also on my 31" tires. Tyre size on standard gearing might still be within the 12% error allowance within the ECU. If you have changed transfer box gearing and have taller tyres you will be outside this 12% margin
P. S. The ECU gets a signal directly from the speedo in the dash (although the signal is doubled by the speedo from 8000 to 16000 pulses per mile.) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
