Thank you 90 Dreamer, people/ the customer don't realise that it's at least 60-70% prep work, then the rest of the work goes according to plan 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

I only know what he told me, he was someone I met years back while instructing at the Outward Bound Centre. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Our house is thatched (not by Clayton, but from what I understand a lot of the Thatchers know each other anyway) - a lot of the mainstream insurers won't touch it, but the more rural and specialist brokers have underwriters who will - NFU, A-Plan etc We have a few more conditions on our insurance - need more fire extinguishers, smoke detectors in the roof space, chimney has to be swept every year and no bonfires in the garden compred to a 'normal' roof and a bit of a premium hike. |

With the ridge all on the back
Click image to enlarge it was onto the next stage which was to cut the pattern out, they have always had this pattern and wanted it again and i had started to brush down the roof after i had trimmed it all the way along the ridge Click image to enlarge roof all brushed down Click image to enlarge My mate had trimmed the front ridge and then he started to cut out the pattern out Click image to enlarge pattern all cut out Click image to enlarge roof all brushed down Click image to enlarge Then after i had finished cutting the pattern, i put wire netting on both sides of the ridge and the chimney aprons as well ( the bits of new ridge below the chimney's ) we always do this regardless as it protects the ridge against birds and the strong winds in the latter years when it starts to get weaker Click image to enlarge Then onto the next and last stage to finish off the work on the roof 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Once all the ridge was completed it was time to put all the wire netting back on the roof both sides which went very well, you can just see the netting on the roof with the " thicker " vertical lines you can see.
Then it was time to put the " herd " of animals back on, these were put on in 2003 when we re-thatched the property as the owner's thought that they would give the school children something to look at in the morning and on there way home from school back Click image to enlarge front Click image to enlarge then after they were all put up, it was time to make a start on putting a new ridge on the porch, started to strip the old ridge off after we had made room moving a few boards and tubes Click image to enlarge finished the ridge porch Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge This was all completed yesterday ( Thursday ) and we were losing the light, so we came back this morning to pick up all the gear and do a patching job across the road and our scaffolder turned up for some more kit as he is always short of it and a rare pic of a roof that we have just finished without any scaffolding in the way Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So all in all a good job and the owner's are well pleased with the look and the outcome I hope that you enjoyed reading this thread like this way as it's a day to day, as we have been working on this job 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
