Has anyone on here got a factory winch fitted? If so I trying to find out where the auxiliary battery is located. Could you have a look?

I dont know TBH. I thought an auxiliary battery was a prerequisite with an electric winch? Hopefully someone will have the answer. We need to fit an auxiliary battery for overland preparation.

No second battery, it seems the cables hook up to the power/ground points in the engine bay.

Thank you. We will investigate further then. We dont want to strip the car down if someone has the answer. All other Land Rovers/Range Rovers I have owned have had a designated place for a second battery.

Thanks. That’s useful anyway. Ive searched there and it’s brings nothing up for second battery. Looks like we will have to get our thinking caps on if we want a fridge.

No secondary battery on Defender

Current JLR vehicles use a VQM (voltage quality module) now for stop / start operation.

The winch connects to the terminals under the bonnet

I’ve got to fit in the near future

Land Rover list the winch at just over £3k, but that doesn’t include the winch fitting kit

Like AndrewS has said, no standard Landrover winch kit has ever provided a second battery and the new one is no different.

You want your winch connected to the main battery, not the secondary. Whenever u use the winch, it takes a lot of amps so always have your engine running. It would draw down a secondary too quickly.

Secondary batteries are used for ancillary items like fridges, lights, chargers and such usually when the truck isn't running. Good idea to have an isatpr or better a dc to dc charger and fuse box for each additional circuit. Use a deep cycle battery bit can only draw down a lead acid 50% before you start hurting the battery. Lithium now can be drawn down 90% weight 1/3 of the weight and charge faster. Downside is cost, but we have seen amazing performance from a 120ah lithium.

I got my winch and front A-frame fitted about 2-weeks ago. No secondary battery, connection is straight to the primary as shown in the installation instructions.
