Just joined the Forum and thought I’d better check in.
Have recently taken the plunge with a Puma130 Double Cab Pick Up, with the idea to set it up for an overland trip here in Brazil. A few years ago, the wife and I set off on a round the world trip in a 110 300 Tdi, so I am pretty familiar with the basics. However, am looking forward to lots of “fun” with the new “electrickery” of the Puma. Having gone through plenty of old threads, already found the answers to the two biggest problems I have noticed over these first couple of months. A drone when taking the foot off the gas at about 100 km/hr (looks like rear diff) and a tapping noise when coming to a stop in neutral with a warmed up engine (could be hand brake drum – had something similar years ago with the Tdi). Any extra advice always welcome, before we go back to the dealers. Have loads of ideas and questions, but just wanted to say hi first. Finally, congrats on a great Forum, it’s always good to know we are not alone . . . 130 HCPU 2.4TDCi 110 300TDi |

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the group!
I've still not resolved my hand brake issue. I'm thinking I might get it replaced with an X-brake disc. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Thanks for the tips guys and I 'll definitely check out the clutch release bearing and the vacuum pump.
Eduardo - I had a great time in Chile a few years back in the Atacama Desert near to Copiapo and then further north towards San Pedro. Amazing places!!! If you are ever here in Brazil let us know. 130 HCPU 2.4TDCi 110 300TDi |

I had the handbrake rattle after around 3 longer runs last summer - and absolutely none since..?
Not sure if it's fixed itself (maybe high-spots on the drum/pads worn down), or if it only happens on hotter days - maybe I'll found my answer this summer! |

As I can't get to the dealers for a few weeks, I will have to leave things as they are for a while and maybe the handbrake problem will sort itself out like yours did after a few more long runs. However, if it has anything to do with the heat then I've had it , as it is pretty damn hot here most of time. Lets see. 130 HCPU 2.4TDCi 110 300TDi |

The GROOOING noise when you lift off the accelerator is not the diff. is the rear propshaft (due to its faulty design),only solution change it with a TD5's from a SALISBURY diff. equiped car though. They are of the same length (6mm difference),only drawback ,exept cost, some minor vibration at 1100rpm. NOT A TRANSIT

Thanks felos for the tip I'll definitely have a good look at the propshaft. If it is what you say, there is not a lot I can do under the the car's warranty. I am sure that apart from the expense the part that you suggest would be virtually impossible to find here in Brazil. Thanks anyway 130 HCPU 2.4TDCi 110 300TDi |
