it seems someone is knocking out watches made of old defender doors.. you will need to check
whether they are water proof however Click image to enlarge yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

Looks as if the JLR publicity department have been kicked again.
The new James Bond Film release date has now been put back to April 2021. You can’t blame them for doing this but the rate this is going, there will be a face lift model before the film gets released. Must be really frustrating for them as this would have really got the new Defender out there. |

Do you think it would actually increase sales?
I know it works for Disney and Frozen but adults and cars? |

Yes, I think it would. Not in the same way as selling toys in a Disney Shop, but companies just wouldn’t bother investing in product placement if it didn’t work.
So it will be April / May next year before I bother going to see the Dealer for a new Defender? Probably not |

Or is it about is something intangible - brand awareness.
It puts the brand in people's head and it might be aspirational for some younger people, but for the age group that have the income/savings to purchase i think they are not swayed at all. I wonder what this did to their sales: Click image to enlarge |

I spoke to an ex-employee of Reliant in Tamworth. I was passing through a couple of canal locks opposite the factory (which in those days was producing Metrocab Taxis). He told me some horrendous stories of mismanagement like buying job lots of engines only to have to stock pile cars outside in the yard because they had ran out of money and couldn’t afford to buy steering wheels to complete them. Can’t say how much of the stories were true but he did not paint a very pretty Picture.
Getting back to product placement, I don’t suppose Reliant places the Trotters three wheeler in the BBC series (remember that the BBC used to blank out the name from the Fairy washing up liquid bottle when making things out of them on Blue Peter) let alone allow product placement!! If you look at Bond, PP is everywhere. The Omega watches are probably one of the more notable. My Father-in-Law used to work for Philips and during the Roger Moore period they were heavily involved in Bond Films and PP. Sony seems to have taken their place in the latter films. I bet the Roger Moore Esprit did no harm to Lotus although, like the Defender, not many film goers could afford the car. I don’t think it always works. Ford had the new Ka in Quantum of Solace and there is no way this model Ka was as popular as the original one. |

Just a blurb from the Marketing Director at JLR, but a couple of snippets of info some may find interesting:

On the dealer fit accessories front I don’t’ the think I seen a New Defender that hasn’t been “personalised” yet, mist seem to like the Exoedition roof rack but the various patterns of mud flaps and the addition boot liners and better fitting footwell mats seem to be popular too. The sandwich locker on the side also seems to be very popular but that comes as part of the Expedition pack anyway although I have now seen one with just that and none of the other bits of the pack. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

To black or not to black, this is the question. I like this FE “military green” (does she mean Pangea Green with the stain wrap?) with all the silvery bits at the front and back painted gloss black........
Annie you are doing a nice presentation job for Farnell Land Rover’s wrapping business. It gives us a good idea of what does and doesn’t work with paint jobs.
