Yeah, the Brexiteer Ratcliffe is gonna join us - his car production in France - his domicile in Monaco

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/...s-domicile

"His decision to quit Britain came soon after he was knighted by the Queen"

at least he's gonna take profit from mild winters. Good choice Thumbs Up

According to the Monaco Govt website Monaco is not part of the EU but acts as a 3rd party state
https://en.gouv.mc/Policy-Practice/Monaco-...pean-Union Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Yeah, Ratcliffe’s personal Brexit. Excellent performance.

Like the Channel Islands and Andorra, Monaco is outside EU.

You’ll pay with Euros and respect most EU laws anyway and enjoy the mild climat ...

Excellent move Wink

I like the Monegasue Govt rule that you don’t pay tax if you are resident in Monaco for 182 days a year, I had to stay OUT of the UK for 182 days a year to receive a tax refund as a seafarer! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

It's interesting his last UK tax bill was reported as being £110 million - roughly equivalent to about the sponsorship money he's supposed to be putting into Mercedes F1 team. So he's just cutting the middleman out initially, the money is all being used to support a UK based company employing somewhere around 2,000(?) people mainly in the UK.

We all avoid the tax man where and when we can, just so long as it doesn't slip into evasion...

Yeah, that’s a Eutopean rule, too. The state where you passed most of days within one year is gonna tax you. But each and every income can be taxed where it is generated. If you live in Monaco and live from your shares deposed in a Monégasque banque , no problème. If you own a car plant in France, you will have to pay taxes for this income in France etc.

And the future of the Grenadier in France seems a bit dark to me. We have a huge CO2 malus due at first immatriculation (a new Defender : € 10500) In 2021 they are going to add a kg malus for heavy cars (10 €/kg for any kg being added to the weight limit of 1400 kg ). The first immatriculation of a Grenadier will cost you tens of thousands of €€€

At least here in France, only a very rich person can afford the Grenadier
In the EU the time of 5 place utility cars is over (since 2014). In my eyes only the New Defender Hard Top (2+1 places) could potentially escape these maluses being a real utility car (but not a Hard Top neither a real 4x4 on a steel frame)

Most likely that sponsorship money is a tax write off for Ineos. Certainly not a personal payment out of his earnings. Obviously it's his business where he chooses to pay tax but fly the flag Britons like Ratcliffe, Dyson, Green, Branson etc prefer to leave the country for tax reasons once their Knighthood is in the bag rather than paying their dues like everybody else. WARNING.

Julie, Think 10k is much? You can’t get a Defender under 100k euro over here. Any idea how much money is tax?
Anyways... Think they now want us to pay VAT even over the co2 tax. That’s erm... tax over tax. That will make one expensive Defender I guess. 😳😂

We went into a Toyota dealer in February to get a new Landcruiser - malus tax was E20K, came away with a 0 tax CHR hybrid!

If you want to buy a New Defender here in France
1) you pay € 10500 CO2 tax ( = eco malus) in 2020 and probably 12...15000 or even more in 2021
2) you pay the new weight tax ( = eco malus +) which will be another € 12...15000 in 2021 which is going to add itself to the CO2 tax
i.e. the government is gonna invoice and earn € 25 K - and you will have to pay your car, too Neutral

For a brand-new Defender from Solihull you had to pay € 25 K + € 350 taxes for immatriculation.

I bet that any 4X4 in 2021 will be at €100K minimum ( car price + taxes). GRENADIER / NEW DEFENDER REPLACEMENT / TOYO / HILUX / GWAGGON - They become quite a costly adventure for the very rich. That's how things have changed in the past 10 yrs.

And that's why some people pay almost any price for a ten year old 4X4

Didn't you think about the Landcruiser commercial van that escapes the malus ?

Yes absolutely, I was just indulging in some billionaire man maths. Wink

New article here, although I don't think it adds an awful lot new?

The problem we have in the Netherlands because of CO2 taxes...

Completely in base spec.
Was looking into a new HiLux on commercial plates. Not possible unless you give up the rear seats. Leave them in and your looking at the same kind of taxes. Luckily I don’t like the design of the Grenadier. One less car to be sad about... Mr. Green
