2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Java Black
Non starter!!
Went out to my 2007 tdci today, went to start it and on turning the key all I got was clicking sound from under passengers seat ( left hand drive) , no sound of starter at all! After while of trying no power even for central locking! I've taken out battery and put on charge for night! Noticed on battery it has vent tube , is this standard? Also what is average age a battery will last ? I think this is the original battery! Any ideas what the cause is? Is it just battery or could it be something else?? Thanks in advance for any help!

Could have been a loose battery terminal, or loose earth lead to chassis, battery could last between 4 and 7 years so may just need a new one, do you do a lot of short journeys ?

Mine's a TD5 but had exactly the same symptom last week.
Very simple - loose connection to the starter solenoid (the 12v lead, not the hoofing great cable direct from the battery, althought that might be worth a look too)
Crimped it up a bit with pointed pliers, job done. Probably worth a look just to eliminate it from your fault finding. Also try swapping the start relay (the one which you can hear clicking) as this might not be latching fully.

From my time in Poland, you have VERY cold winters- so there is a very good chance that the battery is completely goosed. Try charging it and then discharge test it. The LR batteries have vents on them Wink

Defender hasn't been used recently, as I've been away for work! Only owned it for 2 months so not sure of it's past use! Thanks to all of you who replied, first thing tomorrow I'll be outside sorting it out! Thanks everyone!

Due to the age of the battery I would be tempted to buy a new one anyway, at least it will eliminate one item and save it letting you down in future , buy a good one with 3 years guarantee Thumbs Up

As suggested by 'king of the sparks' , a new battery ! Already decided I will get new one tomorrow as don't need it letting me down in the winter! An old battery and -15 , - 25 don't go great together!
