Any thoughts on "Intelligent All-Wheel Drive"?
All the diesel engines will come with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and permanent 4wd will be available on petrol engines only.
I'm not sure if it's good news or bad.

Also, it says that there are 2 new family packs, but not available to add to the build.

Permanent All Wheel Drive is standard on Land Rover Defender except for those fitted with the new D200, D250 and D300 6-cylinder engines. These engines feature Intelligent All Wheel Drive for greater fuel efficiency utilising Two Wheel Drive capability where appropriate. ​

Thank you.

Hope they explain exactly what that means. I've no idea if that is a step up, or a step down. I get the feeling it could have been needed to get the diesels past the emissions regs.

I wonder if the same applies to the Range Rover Sport, where the P400 and new D300 are both available.

Have just noticed it looks like the D300 misses out on the Brembo front calipers, even on the X. Doesn't give you the option of fitting 18 inch wheels though, so perhaps the rear brakes are the same as those that come with the Brembos.

At least going by the configurator it seems only the P400 gets these. Just as likely the configurator is wrong though.

The standard brakes are pretty sensitive and very powerful so you won’t get much more with Brembos I would imagine (except a lighter wallet and some stickers on the calipers ......) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I know, more of a nice-to-have than anything.

If it definitely comes with those calipers then you should be able to spec 18s from the factory.

I'm interested in the detail of the switch to intelligent all wheel drive on some models. Is there any loss in offroad capability and does it still have low range? Does it come with same control in the TR system? Rear diff lock still available? Etc.

It's undoubtedly been done for emissions reasons in my opinion. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I posted elsewhere that the system was launched in 2015 in the turbo petrol Evoque so this may be an update that allows it to work on permanent 4WD as opposed to AWD, in Evoque it disconnected the rear drive electro-mechanically above 28mph but could re-instate it in a claimed 1/300th of a second if wheel spillage was detected and put the car back into AWD/4WD mode, so basically it made the car 2WD above 28mph and the driver had no control over it. I’m going to switch my order to a 21MY so we’ll find out. In theory it shouldn’t affect off-road ability at all as the clutch pack just does the same thing as the centre diff and both are controlled by Terrain Response. Rear e-diff is still an option and low range etc. all still there.

It’s a shame to lose permanent four wheel drive as I like how vehicles with it drive on the road, however I am sure that LR’s system is clever enough to have it when it’s needed and taper it off when it’s not.

One thing I’m particularly pleased about is that you can now option the full digital dash display on the base spec. Previously it was only available on S or above but now for £300 you can have it on the standard model. Well worth it as I really liked it on the one I test drive.

It’s unlikely to be related to the Evoque system. That’s transverse FWD setup with Haldex AWD as used in loads of hatchbacks and SUVs. I’d imagine it might be more similar to BMWs X drive which favours RWD most of the time. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
