Bilstein shocks on a 90
Having snapped a rear shock driving like a loon in the yard at work I’m in the market for some new shocks. I’d bought some new take offs a few years ago but am now looking at bilsteins. Are they worth the extra coin and will I notice any difference?

What are you looking for? I’ve had Bilstien, OEM and fox. In terms of smoothness of ride, that order would be from stiffest to soft, so bilstien for speed, fox for comfort.

I was hoping the bilsteins would be smoother than oem. Out of interest are you running standard springs? DON'T PANIC

I had the the Bilsteins and found them a bit harsh so I went back to standard shocks and springs and added some spring isolators.

Yes Doofer. Alive comfort springs are a game changer... adding Bilsteins is a step backwards, standard dampers are better, but have a limited life...they’re cheap for a reason. Add Fox and the ride is sublime. My v8 is soooo comfy with Alive and FOX.

Running factory springs with fox shocks. Very happy with the result. Previously had Bilsteins but found ride too harsh.

Have Alive Comfort set up with Bilsteins on ours. Huge improvement over originals.

My truck came with standard springs and shocks. I found the ride unacceptable, so I changed for Alive lowered springs and Bilsteins'. This was a big improvement, but still a little harsh for me. So I changed the shocks for Fox adjustable with the reservoir. It has totally transformed the truck. It's definitely worth the money, the ride and handling is now amazing!

Standard springs and Bilsteins for me. Ride is a lot firmer than the old standard shocks but feels so much more planted. Not too harsh when I had a day green laning but if off road a lot it will probably get too you. I’m mainly road use. 90 TD5.
