Help Finding Connector Clip & Boost Leak Question
Hi,

I put my Defender in storage for a few months earlier this year, and, unbeknownst to me, the owner of the storage facility was starting the engine and leaving it idling on a regular basis. Predictably, this resulted in a severely clogged DPF (& failed glow plugs). Due to space constraints where I live, I had to take the car in for the DPF to be removed and sent away for cleaning (I try to avoid letting others work on the car whenever I can!). When it came back, it was obvious that the garage couldn't care less when it came to workmanship, and had ripped things out in the quickest possible manner to remove the DPF. I've now corrected all the other small areas of damage caused by the garage, but there's a missing clip used to attach an electrical connector (I can't remember for certain, but I think it was on the wiring for one of the DPF pressure sensors), which I've been unable to identify. I've attached some photos of the connector which has the missing clip, and some to show its location in the engine bay (near the offside wing, behind the air box), and would be really grateful if someone could help me identify this missing clip!

Also, one other thing is that, since the DPF cleaning, I've noticed a hissing noise coming from the engine, which manifests under load, and can also be heard for approximately 1 second after the ignition is switched off (after 1 second, it stops abruptly). Now, I'm not sure if this noise has always been there, and I just never noticed it before, but I don't think it has. There is also no loss of power or black smoke. There is an occasional hiccup when reapplying the power after a gear change, but I believe this is unrelated, as it did this from new. I have checked all the intercooler/turbo hoses and haven't been able to find any splits etc. However, when they did the DPF, the glow plugs were also changed as several had failed (also, I would imagine, likely due to the excessive idling and the "afterglow function"). I am aware that the intake manifold was removed in order to gain better access to the glow plugs, and wondered whether it is possible to have a leak here, without any symptoms other than a hissing noise. As I say though, I could be imagining this noise, but I'd be grateful for any thoughts on this, or if anyone can tell me if their Defender makes this noise!

Intake manifold removed? Exhaust manifold maybe if they took it out the top and wanted more room?

Is hissing worse cold or hot?

Sounds like exhaust gas escaping from manifold to block or more likely turbo to manifold. Cheers

Thanks for the replies!

Jst - sorry, I forgot to mention that they also replaced the glow plugs at the same time (3 had failed, also, I imagine, likely due to the excessive idling and the "afterglow" function), which is why the intake manifold came off. I'll alter my original post to reflect this. I haven't checked the exhaust manifold as I thought this would be a less steady hissing, but I'll investigate this. The hissing is no different whether hot or cold. As I say though, it does hiss for about one second after turn the key off, and then suddenly stops when it sounds like an actuator resets - don't know what this actuator would be though - EGR, throttle, turbo vanes, etc???

The image in my post is cropped from an old TRW pdf catalogue that I have.

Since then, ZF bought TRW in 2015, and then sold the Automotive Fastener business to ITW (Illinois Tool Works) in 2016.

ITW's website is useless, being just an overview of the business segments they're in, with lots of old blah, blah, blah, about how much they're worth Sad

Thanks for doing all that research for me! They do indeed seem to be very hard to get hold of. I'll do a bit of ringing around and see how I get on. If I have any luck I'll post back here with details in case someone else needs one!
