Crikey, doubt you'd get anything done under warranty after six years. And the time (hassle) of chasing the idea might take longer than ripping the side steps off, stripping them down and repsraying them yourself....or buy a new set. You'll know whether your time is worth more/less than the £250+ you'll need to pay for an aftermarket set, more for OEM.... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Same issue Grapax. I have a 2014 110 Utility and the side step ends are as rusty as a dog.

I would check your front bumper as well. You may be disappointed to find that has got the corrosion beetle into it as well. Both jobs I have on my to do list.

Both these and my rotten mudflap brackets were turned down when I got my corrosion work done under warranty. There is no harm in asking, just don't expect a positive result, but if they do decide they will do it for you, please let us know.

Some have had LR respray their rusty rear cross members under warranty and some haven't. Mine was ok but I can see where at some point in the future, I will need to address this situation.

I have had all four mudflap brackets replaced - and not for LR ones either. I don't want to be doing the same job again in five years time Rolling Eyes

Good luck Thumbs Up

Well I bought the motor from them without discount at ticket price and got it religiously serviced every time it needed it. I always had the optional extras which I'm sure weren't actually needed. And it still took them two years to get anything done bodywise.

The main dealer took pictures for evidence three times and I still had to take it to the bodyshop for more pictures to be taken so LR would authorise the repairs. I got told so many stories about what was happening, sadly all of it was lies (as I found out as time went on. You need to have a good memory to be a good liar)

The bodywork side of things was done by the Bodycentre in Norwich. It was an absolutely brilliant job and many have commented on how well the repairs were done which is thankful.

I'm not sure what else I could have done, Sulisuli? I am quite envious of your relationship you have with your Main Dealer. Perhaps if they treated me as well as you have been looked after. I wouldn't have got disillusioned with mine and we probably would be looking at another green oval badged car for the drive. Not in any hurry to go back.

I will add that their parts department is good.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks for all the answers.
I’ll try giving my local dealer a call to see what they say.
I’ll also check the mud flap brackets for corrosion

I tried to get my aftermarket steps replaced by the supplier after the rubber section broke off and rust started appearing within six months. I bought them because they were HD and according to the firm's website 'Featuring a hard wearing rubber'. When I sent photos and a brief description, politely suggesting there might have been a QC problem with their supplier, (rather than outright acusing them that they were rubbish), they replied that the reason the rubber had broken was my fault because I was stepping in the same place on the step all the time.

WTF? Am I supposed to slightly adjust my footing each time I use a HD step to get into my Defender? A HD sidestep which specifically includes Hard Wearing rubber? A side step designed to be stepped on? They even sent the photo back with some lines showing where I should have stepped, (I presume applying different loading each time, just to be safe), which was almost half the entire length of a 110 step. Well, we all know the ergonomics of getting into the badly positioned front door of a Defender, so approaching from the middle of the step would have required a contortionist qualified to join Cirque du Soleil.

When I pointed this out, that HD steps by their definition are meant to be stepped on and no one would reasonably expect a person to use different ingress and egress methods when using them, and that I probably had stepped on the step no more than twice a day, 4-5 days a week, ergo a little over 300 times, they took no responsibility. When I said I was shocked that there wasn't even a semblance of an apology and even the offer to send me the rubber section so that I could spend many hours of my valuable time repairing the six month old, falling apart steps, and making them what they should have been, they completely ignored me. Red rag to a bull.

Took me writing to the owner/MD of the firm, threatening him with court action, trading standards and exposure in LR media/forums (who'd want to be exposed publicly for coming up with such an inane excuse that I'd mis-stepped onto the step - with accompanying diagram on the photo I supplied), before he eventually relinquished and stumped up some cash. I was so p**sed off by the experience that I didn't want his cash and told him to give it to H4H instead. I've worked for the past 15 years in sales and pride myself on my level of service but also my honesty and, when required, contrition. Couldn't believe this guy was so demonstrably indifferent and couldn't care a fig about customer service. But then that's modern life I suppose. Be polite, be professional, accept when you're wrong, and customers will (nearly always) keep coming back. It's so easy.

Anyway, hope you get a 'good' sales experience and they sort you out. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

With that kind of attitude Grenadier, they don’t deserve to have a business.

Don't give up hope. I got my rear step replaced under warranty after three years, my side steps after four years and windscreen frame at five years. I think it boils down to the relationship with your dealer and their relationship with JLR. Oh and don't forget "pester power". Plus it helps if you use them for routine servicing. Defender 90XS SW

bought a NAS step last year supplied by a well known "specialist", had my tuner dose it with cavity wax, etc. prior to fitting
at the beginning of lock-down whist doing some general cleaning I find its actually showing rust on some external seams (about 6months old at this point), various pix to supplier with no response with eventually months later a response that was to the effect of "well they all do that sir"..............

have now got my tuner looking at various specialist coating options to basically solve it on-going

I couldn’t agree more, but sadly they are doing very, very well, growing year on year. More the irony that despite their revenue and ‘profile’ they couldn’t replace or pay for a pair of steps that cost them no more than a couple of hundred quid. They make that in 5 mins. Indeed they made considerably more out of me as before the fiasco I recommended them to a friend who spent a good 5k on wheels etc. Most people on this forum would have heard of them, but I promised not to use their name once they stumped up the cash. But I’ve never used or recommended them since. Monsieur Le Grenadier
