Well, the Defender 90 has gone to Hallams for their very fair offer of £16,750
Plus they threw in £120 of parts l had ordered for the 110.
l kept the Optimill fuel cap!!

And they lent me a car.

Hallams in Hayfield not Jim Hallam in Leek. Will be interesting to see how much they put it up for.

I tried Motodrome and they offered £15,000.

I like her new car too Cool

I follow a few new Jimny instagram accounts, there’s some nice aftermarket stuff already.

Good to hear you got a good quick deal.

Love the new car too
I tried to buy one last year to no avail.
I see they’ve got a 2006 csw for sale at £19995 with 100k miles
So your XS model might be priced higher again.
Never thought I’d see prices this high. 👍

lt was them advertising that silver one at £20,000 that made me think mine was worth that. But l had it on sale at £18,000 with no interest.

Hallams Hayfield get good prices, they've got a good reputation, and a lot of well off punters live around there. Also they honour any warranty claims without argument so people are happy to pay their prices.

Most people will pay more from a dealer anyway, as they get a warranty, finance, and part exchange facilities.
Having said that, their £20,000 one hasn't sold and it's been there a while.

l paid £14,500 for the Defender last year but spent far too much money on it. Some of the things increased the value but a lot of it didn't, such as paying £1,000 for Puma front seats when the original seats were still fine, and paying over £500 for a new aircon condenser just because the old one looked past its best, although the aircon still worked fine.

If you're happy with a good clean Dealer offer then all is good, but where else have you advertised it, bearing in mind that most people on here would probably already own a Defender?

lt was on Ebay and Auto Trader.

However there were three other TD5 XS Station Wagons on Auto Trader all under £18,000 and one really nice looking blue one at under £16,000
ln fact they are still for sale.
Most of the work l did on mine didn't increase the value, except the bodywork, and that was to rectify issues l didn't notice when l bought it.
The rear door was damaged behind the spare wheel, and the lacquer flaked off the roof in places after a few months.

lt's gone on their website at £20,500

That's pretty much what they told me
they were going to sell it for, when they bought it off me.

lt will probably sell, people will pay more from dealers due to the warranty, finance options, part exchange etc

Sold within one day

Bizarre that l got no interest at £18,000 and they've sold it in under 24 hours at £20,500

Yeah...it’s weird isn’t it?

Bear in mind you will never know the deal. They may have over valued a p/ex to draw in a punter. They may have contributed towards a finance deposit. They may have to repair it under warranty??

But...they will make a profit from the sale.

It bemuses me why folks pay thousands extra for “dealer benefits” but they always do.
My mate was desperately trying to sell his Motorhome at an excellent price of £50k... In a month he had no interest and a dealer took it at £48k.....advertised the next day at £60k !!! Big Cry

I’m always keen to buy private...helping myself and hopefully the seller feels more satisfied too. It’s a risk for sure, but there is a cash bias to offset the risk

Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow....

IMO these days people rarely have any kind of cash to pay for their vehicles (or anything else) and therefore need to buy from a dealer on the 'never never' and also with most having a lack of mechanical knowledge then the added benefits of warranty, etc are all welcomed......

l would say you've hit the nail on the head there, especially with a fifteen year old Defender

l am pleased they managed to shift it quickly, every business needs all the money they can get at the moment.

l think the Grenadier may hurt Defender values when it comes on stream. As it looks like what the Defender should have become.

With HP, the price would have gone up to £24,727.00.
When I bought mine.. I looked for private sale. I can make a lot of repairs with £6,727.00. I think most Defender owners have good skills. Pity this Defender is classed as M1 Neutral 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black

I have a 2006 90 XS identical to lightings just hit 90,000 In impeccable condition and I’ve been offered £17,160 by the local dealer. So don’t let it go for less!!! I think the dealer who made me the offer had someone lined up for it. But for now I’m keeping it.
