The variance in insurance quotes !
Hi all
I'm new here but have been on Martins RRS and Disco4 forums previously. I've just bought a 110 double cab so look forward to joining in on here.

Though I'd start with the widely varied insurance quotes I got for the car yesterday. These quotes are for the same car / driver details, and on the same basis as each other ...

A-plan ( Thatcham office ) : £840 / year Shocked
A-plan ( Weybridge office ): £650 / year
Adrian Flux : £565 / year
NFU : £464 / year

Surprising range in those numbers, particularly from forum sponsors A-Plan (not to mention a near £200 difference from their different offices). I've been with NFU previously with good experience, so will be going with them again.

Cheers
Tony

That's a bit worrying as we're always advised that A-plan Thatcham are the ones to go to for 4x4 policies but are £190 more than a different office! Makes me wonder, sold our old Freelander at the weekend & the new buyer insurered it with Aviva for less than I was paying through A-plan for a restricted mileage policy. Think I will be looking around at renewal.

I've just had a scary thought. I've been driving for 55 years this year and never made a claim on car insurance - I dread to think how much I have put into the insurance industry. Big Cry

I must admit when it comes to brand loyalty, I don't have any as far as insurance is concerned - all I want is a good price. (In this instance good equates to low!)

Shop around but remember to declare any mods that are already on the vehicle and any you intend to fit. Defender 90XS SW

Thanks Chaps. I was really surprised to get such a high quote from the Thatcham office of A-Plan, having read all their great reviews on here. And to be nearly £200 more than their Weybridge office is really poor.

NFU is done, just awaiting arrival of the car now !

Very odd - when I last asked NFU for a quote, they were by far the most expensive (double). I have the house insured with them and have always been happy with the service.

I went with NFU this year after years with A Plan. £200 saving. Plus A plan wouldn't insure with steering guard.

That's really odd as they've just insured mine with a steering guard, amongst many other things Confused

I sometimes think that insurers change these things on a whim just to maintain the mystery Rolling Eyes Darren

Here’s one reason why premiums can vary a lot - if you are in a target area for thieves
