Update.

I’ve had this about 5-6 weeks now.

It’s done around 1,200 miles and out of them, I’ve done around 300. Mrs G’s Ewok has had some minor issues lately, firstly a wheel speed sensor.. which threw up all sorts of warning lights and then the door handle cable broke, both happened separately but both on the days before she had to travel to the Lakes. Luckily she LOVES driving it.

I’m not that enthusiastic about it, it’s very comfortable and quiet, but lacks any real pace, so I’m acquiring parts to make it go a little better.
I’m also getting stuff together to tidy it up, like genuine rear mudflaps, genuine mats etc. It also needs the rear cross member painting.

I’ve added a MUD under cubby security box, which as well as housing an extra 12v socket and Ram mount, it’s a great place to lock stuff up, like the ipad... but more beneficial, it gives the cubby box height, making it elbow leaning friendly.

I realised I hadn’t tested the transfer box, so as the weather was forecast as rain yesterday, we took on a lane or two in the Peaks.

Last weekend was the first comp safari after lockdown, down in Evesham, though as the forecast was dry, I opted for the cruiser! My marshal point was in woodland amongst deer (which every time they appeared, I hadn’t got my phone on me to take a photo.).

Speed parts. (Or is that ‘less-slow’ parts).

Hey up Clayton, it’s a Disco t/box, so increases the gearing, making dual carriageway cruising a lot more comfortable.

A few days of spannerng. Having removed the intercooler to replace it with a BAS jobby, i found my rad was a bit worse for wear, though not leaking, there was a large amount of corrosion so a call to a friend who just started a motor factors company, he delivered one in person, same day, on a Saturday!

However i dropped the t/box out and replaced it with a 1.2 disco version.

It’s also had a few other bits n bobs and is now waiting for replacement tyres.
The bushes still need doing, but it now drives better with cruising speed achieved at lower revs = quieter.

Looking forward to using it on lanes over autumn/winter.

Good work. I much prefer my 90 since the disco transfer box was fitted.

I am planning on getting 1.2 gears next on my TD5, is it best to get a whole box from a disco or put the replacement gears in from Ashcroft? Mine has only done 53k and most Disco’s seem to have done 100k + so little worried about putting in a tired box. Thanks

Out of interest, how did you sort the speedo drive out? D2 takes speedo from one of the wheels vs Defender using t/box.

Saw a yellow G4 90 heading south on the M3 at Winchester on 22 August, first time I've actually seen one that colour in the flesh!

The speedo drive was from the rear output nose (not sure it was a d2 box now..a mate had it for his Wolf 110 but know he's putting in an LS, so it came £free), though a very different 2 pin plug on the box, compared to a 3 pin connector on the 90.., I pulled the plug off the t/box and installed the original one off my 90, though the plastic green square drive was too big for the box's gear...a date with a file sorted that out! It works fine.

At G-P, I'm sure Ashcroft may be able to either supply you with the gears to swap on your own box, or you could send your box to them and ask for the same box back..
Dave is on this forum as 'Ashtrans', best to word him up.
