So Jeremy, you see it as a replacement for the Discovery 4. I may be missing something really simple here - but wasn't it supposed to be a replacement for the Defender Defender 90XS SW

It can’t be a replacement for my old TD5 90 as 1) it doesn’t leak, 2) it doesn’t require rust proofing, and 3) it doesn’t require yoga stretches after an extended journey. But at 61k for a HSE when a year old D5 HSE with 5k miles can be had for 48k, I’m going to need more alcohol to get the man maths to compute.

Man maths don’t come into it........ £61k before you add any extras for a brand new car versus £48k for a used car that you don’t know who has abused it, has old technology compared to the Defender especially with the dash and entertainment - no more slow ICTP and when I tested the 2.0ltr diesel D5 it’s performance was dire, same engine in Defender is light years better and the car has been properly designed to accommodate the DPF so less risk of oil dilution and the previous engine issue of earlier Ingenium small diesels. Just stick to the D4 Jeremy - you know how much stick you'll get from the Mr B, Jason & me if you buy either a D5 or that huge fugly monstrosity! And as for what Alan will say An ideal opportunity to use some man maths to convince you know who it's time to move to the country to avoid the ULEZ |

That remains to be proven Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I’m interested to read your Fuelly outputs. That economy seems poor, no? My D4 will average 30-31mpg. |

[quote="Jeremy"]After 4yrs in a D3 and 8yrs in a D4, the latter now at 96k miles, I’m opting for a change. I drove a 110S 240 Defender at Lookers in Bishop Stortford today. It drove beautifully and felt well screwed together. It looked better in the blue rather than the green. I can see it as a serious replacement for my D4. Just waiting to hear what the deal is. Lookers car valuation for my D4 HSE (FLRSH) came out at 12k.
Be interesting to see what discounts they offer. LR experience guys were saying some arrivals had managed 6% on theirs so don’t hold back ! Does the S just have the analogue Rev counter and Speedo? 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

I hope it will improve as the engine beds in but I’m happy with what it gives me, the sort of miles I do it’s regularly showing > 39mpg in local driving which is all on fast A roads with very little town driving. Your D4 has the SDv6 engine that doesn’t have to work quite so hard as the 2.0ltr 4pot. In my last RRS SDv6 with the 306hp engine could get better than the Defender too. I’m happy with it but it doesn’t compare with my last car that I sent back with the trip computers showing more than 300mpg over the 2 years I owned ut. It did help having 3 months >97% pure electric motoring without consuming a drop of petrol in its 3pot 1.5 turbo petrol. - it was a PHEV though. Out of curiosity have you tried any alternative valuations such as we buy any car, etc? |

WBAC £12K, Autotrader £11,200. The cheapest private seller of a '12 HSE on Autotrader is 14k with 86k miles. I'll aim for £13,750 when I get round to it.
