After a very wet outing yesterday I can now hear what can only be described as a whooshing Compressed air squirting noise from my Passenger side footwell. It’s probably further forward in the engine bay.
I thought it could be simply wind noise due to a Door seal broken or door not closed but it only happens under acceleration. Also does not happen when reviving the engine when stationary. Has to be moving. Could it be a belt slipping? It was torrential rain yesterday and did a lot of puddle smashing. Or a hose? See video (of passenger floor mat) with noise under acceleration. Possibly. But no loss of drive or engine management light.
Have a set of BAS hoses ready for fitting anyway if it is that but thought it’d give a fault code. |

Does sound like a hose, if you drive it on full boost is it performing as it should? Any black smoke at full boost? Cheers

My Volkswagen LT35 used to make that noise when the intercooler was starting to split. Replaced about 3 or 4 times so I came to recognise it. Hopefully yours is just a hose.

Now I’m in agreement that it’s a hose starting to go.
Sounds like a pressure from a jet wash. I’m just surprised there is no engine light and can’t identify any cracks. Also no real drop in ‘performance’ and no black smoke... Yet.... Anyway fitting the BAS hoses as a precaution and will check.  |

Reading all the ‘How to’ Guides on here to night in anticipation of much knuckle scraping.
Not bought a new intercooler as I’m hoping it’s just one of the hoses. Stupid question but is it easier to just change the hoses with the intercooler in situ or do you need to remove the intercooler to fit the hoses. Note: I'm keeping the standard intercooler for now. Pennies count,.. |

Fitting silicone hoses can be a pain as they’re so much more rigid.

100% hose failure. Not the short elbow one, but the easy to get to mid size one right at the top.
Took 1 day to notice a drop in performance, 2 days until the engine management light illuminated and after 3 days until it went into limp low power mode. Took 10 minutes to fit that hose and get it back on the road. The others a bit longer. Couple of hours in total. Thanks all. Great forum this.... |

To be totally honest I just removed the first hose. Found a hole. Fixed it and felt really proud of myself.
Had a busy day planned so to get back up and running in 15 mins was ideal. Hose pics,

Click image to enlarge happened to stumble across this post after googling this same fault coming from my passenger air box, saw the "whooshing noise" and new I was on the money - thanks for the fix. Mine was unfortunately a bit of a hack to get sorted but done now and back to full steam!! |
