morning all,

I just thought I'd post in case anyone else found themselves to be in the same boat as me. last week my ABS pump bit the dust. wasn't getting any flow from the front lines doing a power bleed and my diagnostics backed up my thought that the pump had died. I sent it off for a rebuild but it was heavily corroded internally.

I have a reasonably expensive rebuilt unit on it's way today.
Being impatient, I looked for other options wondering why the Disco II ABS module seemed so much cheaper and more readily available than the defender one. they look the same other than the labeling of the brake lines. Curious, I fitted a disco II abs unit that's was up for sale down the road form me for £30.

I wasn't expecting much but it works perfectly!!! ignore the brake labeling and just plumb it up as you would a defender unit. £30 unit is on there now and the £500 unit is about to drop onto my door step! typical lol

Just done the same job myself on my TD5. Worked a treat. My motor was also full of rust.

It is difficult to access but can be done on a TD5 by removing the inlet grill and ducting, wheel arch and loosening the brake pedal box.

My Puma is a none ABS spec. Thumbs Up

Maybe the cost is just due to availability. FFRR TDV8 sold

As above, purely down to availability, all discovery 2s came with abs/traction control and were sold in their thousands, plus lots being scrapped due to chassis rot which is a shame really.

Useful to know though as my td5 has abs Thumbs Up

Do you know if this works? Have you tested it with individual wheels with lost traction?
It concerns me that not matching could cause the electronics of the ABS to release the wrong brake.

yes, abs and TC work on the correct wheels. managed to get it cross axled on a local lane near me for a bit of a play.
Wabco only have one part number for these pumps. Landrover just plumbed them differently for the disco. New pump arrived yesterday so have a bit of a dilemma. fit it or keep it as a good spare...

I imagine that the ECU simply tells the modulator which brake line to pulse or release, and the mapping of wheel to output is in the ECU. If the ECU says modulate line 1, the modulator with do just that.

It's a handy tip to know that these are interchangeable*. Thumbs Up




* But I am still glad I don't have ABS/TC on my Defender, it would just be one more thing to go wrong.
