2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Stornoway Grey
Is this forum turning into the most negative forum out there?

Maybe its been repaired and they didn't want it to rust again so put some preservative on it.

If they had welded on a plate and not done anything to it people would moan at that too. Cheers

Tap it with a hammer or use a fine flat fronted drift. If you damage the underseal and find the repair is perfect, just slap a bit more on, if you find the repair inadequate, it's all coming off anyway.

Given the advisories quoted, it appears the MoT testers wouldn't go that far.

And I thought they had to purchase a hammer for exactly that purpose?

Perhaps they just don't like getting their tools dirty. The point though, much as JST has made above, was more about reaching the conclusion that if something is covered in underseal then it's automatically a sign of something bad. Darren

Some testers can be either very picky or like to cover themselves. My 110 with all new suspension, fuel lines and a galv chassis had an advisory of 'general underbody corrosion'. When I asked about it the tester actually said it was a catch-all.

As has been said, probably fine but good to check.

I had a S3 which looked fine but someone had actually glued metal over the rust in the front crossmember. Probably took as long to do as a proper repair. Ended up cutting it all off and replacing the front 1/4.

I have seen a roll cage welded on with rtv 'lookalike weld' on the hard to reach spots. So there are cowboys out there but i dont think we should all assume the worst everytime. Cheers
