New JLR motor arrived this week.
Company motor, no way I could afford one myself. Not complaining though Very Happy Thumbs Up
Having trouble wiping the grin off my face, it goes like the clappers.

I follow EVMan on YouTube and he just posted this interesting video about what people think they need for electric range.


Congratulations on the I-Pace, I’ve had a couple of test drives but they are more expensive than a new Defender, the most basic S version is more than £65000 and there’s no payback from the government for buying an EV costing more than £50k so not so attractive for the private buyer Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The list price was eye watering and I dont think there is a universe where I would be able to even consider it as a private sale. Mi e was ordered before the changes in ev Grants so the leasing company got the 3.5k off which helped bring into an achievable bracket for me.
It does drive beautifully, the silence is serene and the performance very impressive.
I will also be interested to see what range I end up getting. My work journey is only 60 miles round trip and I seldom do more than 150 miles in one go. Ironically, my longest journeys tend to be picking stuff up for the defender.

Neighbour has a company i-pace, beautiful car costing 74k supplied last October but after 2 months the car would not accept a charge and since then, some 4 months he has been using a courtesy car. Supplier (Inchcape) cannot find out what is wrong with it!!! Jeff

Not wanting to turn this into a debate on the practicality of EV's, but re. the video: yes and no: true about the range, but he's completely bypassing the fact that on long travels, you'll want to continue driving after that break of e.g. 15 maybe 30 minnutes of coffee and a leg stretch. With an EV, you'll not be going anywhere for the next hour(s) because the charging takes time... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

It is not moving much at the moment but makes a great driveway ornament. Although I have been working full time through lockdown we have now been told not to expect to go back to the office for the remainder of the year Shocked
Range will not be a problem for a while. It is an interesting debate though and j am reluctant to get rid of the other household car (an economical diesel mpv) as I can do the 300 mile round trip with no stops when collecting much needed (ahem) spares and accessories.

Fair enough: in the UK (tiny) and EU, where I assume there are plenty of charging stations AND you have a reliable source of power, then range is not really an issue.

But in vast countries like ZA & Oz, where sometimes the distance between towns is 400Km or more, EVs are really out of the question. I don't know about Oz, but the ZA electricity supply is terrible, and you could find yourself stranded in a town for 4-6 hours during a blackout.

I'm actually considering buying an EV (Kia ESoul) for our Portugal home. A range of 450km is really not that bad, considering Porto - Lisbon is a 320km drive.

I'm assuming touring Europe with an EV will be feasible, even when you get to smaller towns/villages? --

there are way more charging points that I expected, so looks like an EV is definitely an option for us Thumbs Up --

Put some PV solar on the Villa roof and charge it for free. Love Porto it’s a beautiful city and the Northern West Coast is fantastic but the sea water is oooooooh so cold! Used to spend 10 days a month working in Lisbon and Porto. Used to have some great “Port” crawls in Vila Nova De Gaia when the tiny ships I was on were small enough to get over the Duoro Bar, then the ships got too big and we called at Leixoes/ Matisinos Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Some of the major manufacturers are getting together to install the Ionity network across Europe as well. Need to make up for list ground when compared to the Tesla network.
Getting there though i think.
