Got pulled back out by a Disco. Tried snatching me forwards but he couldn't keep grip.
I don't have easy access to a hose so a trip to the local Polskis and crossing their palm with paper notes, got the vehicle cleaned inside and out for £50. That was an expensive mud bath! |

That is a proper defender engine bay, how the should look!
Why did you stop? I assume that the bottom was actually quite soft, because that really isn't very deep. It's not deep until it's filled your wellies! |

Ran out of momentum and grip, sadly. I was behind my group at a P&P site and when I found them all parked up trying get someone out, I figured they’d bombed it through the water feature - but nope! Just me!
I have KO2s fitted now so looking forward to going to another P&P day to test them out. |

That photo was taken last October but no, no breathers. I will be buying one of these once I have enough spare cash to get a Safari snorkel on, and getting it all done at the same time.
I also need my rear diff replacing.due to excessive clunking. Choices which to go for first! |

Diff clunking is probably play that can be adjusted. Probably no need to buy parts. Roel

I've jacked the rear corners up and spun the wheel back and forth until the clunk hits. It happens before the prop moves and before the other wheel moves (if that makes sense). I also sent a clip of it to benniferj who was at Nigel's (Xcess 4x4) who also confirmed from the video that it was play in the diff, so that's what I'm inclined to say it is.
I've replaced the rear half-shafts and the play hasn't gotten any better. |

Most off the play will probably between the crownwheel and the pignion. You can easily adjust this by screwing the whiloe clock closer to the pignion.
If with you most play is in the satellite wheels, that is more difficult to adjust as you need plenty off washers / shims in different sizes. Fair question and I honestly do not know. The front diff oil was changed not all that long ago and tbh it didn't look great. I should probably get on that!
I'll be honest... what you just said went right over my head! I've never been inside the guts of a diff before. I think I know what the crown wheel is (the big with the big teeth on in there) but that's about it. |

I did checked this whole video but there are plenty on youtube. Offcourse we don't all hev the right measurement systems so I do it al feel too. You can adjust as he does in the video and as long as you feel a little play it is OK.If you don't feel play it is too tight. So you adjust inwards till you feel no play. Mark this position. Screw both sides a quarter turn back so you should have play again. Adjust again in small steps till you don't have play again. No you should know the point off no play and the point off little play. Make half a turn back again and adjust to the point off little play. Tighten eveything and check if you can turn the crownwheel a full round without places with more play or no play. If there are differences in play the crownwheel or the inner part might not be straight anymore. That EGR cooler can come off completely when you blank off the EGR. When you buy the kit put the large EGR blank in place of the EGR. Then the smaller plate on the exhaust manifold where the EGR pipe would bolt to. That just leaves the 2 coolant hoses going to the EGR cooler. Cut them short so you can tuck them away and join them together. Next time you work around the viscous fan area you'll be glad you did |
