Good to see he got a custodial sentence. It really pees me off watching Traffic Cops when it appears that most of these idiots on our roads get off scott free. Nice to hear of one being banged up.

I hope your repair goes well, good luck. Defender 90XS SW

Not just uninsured but possibly also not taken a UK driving test if he’s been in the U.K. more than 6 months...... friend who has an American wife gave up trying to pass her UK test after she came to live here........... “those dammed circle things are just so difficult to get the hang of” after her ninth failure on the same thing - not giving way when entering a round about........ but since then she also cannot get insured here as a foreign national who has lived more than 6 months in the U.K. without taking a UK driving test. Makes me wonder how many of those “new to the UK” taxi / private hire car drivers have taken their UK test......... often not being able to speak a word of English too. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I recall seeing a slide from a JLR presentation showing length of service of the engineering team ~ most were in the 0 to 4 years bracket.

I did wonder at the time who were the custodians of the corporate memory?

I imagine that the moron driving the other car was uninsured?

Glad you were OK, that was a pretty massive impact. Shocked

Thank you everyone for your words of support Thumbs Up

The insurance was an interesting point. The driver is an Albanian National who was on the run from the police in London in relation to drug production and other matters. He pleaded guilty to no insurance at court. However, the car itself was actually insured. Cover had been taken out only a couple of weeks earlier. One monthly payment was made at the time. The cover was in the name of another Eastern European who neither the police nor the insurance company have been able to trace. Needless to say, the insurance instalments mysteriously stopped and whilst the car itself is nothing more than scrap value, no one ever came forward to report it stolen. Sounds a right can of worms but made easier for me since the other vehicle insurance company and my own insurers are one and the same.

Peter I was unaware that that was a video of you and your Defender. I thought it was something pulled from YouTube. Glad the culprits were caught but I bet it was a trying experience waiting for justice to be done. You were honest and did not hammer the insurance for "whiplash" as others seem to do. You will be glad to get the Defender back. If the chassis had not deformed in some way there by absorbing some of the impact things may have been worse. The vehicle can be repaired because it is built as it is. The new Defender might not have been repaired as someone says the cost might have been deemed to great for the company. I am sure once "Peg" returns we will be treated to photos of the new lower regions. Yep I am drooling already. Thumbs Up

No problem Spudfan. I didn’t make it clear it was me. Thank you for your kind words Thumbs Up Peter

Glad to hear it! Thumbs Up

"likely deportation" this annoys the hell out of me. Only likely. Should be certainly, for any serious offence.

Total of 14 months incarceration isn’t a bad punishment on the face of it. This was the total for all the offences the guy was charged with including the drug production. His conviction also includes dangerous driving. Rightly so. What you don’t see on the video is his car had fully mounted the pavement after glancing off another innocent motorists car. A mother and daughter were walking on the pavement ahead of me. They were so close to disaster! The speed of impact into my Defender was estimated at over 60mph - in a rural 20 zone!

Due to covid, the magistrates court was presided over by a professional judge rather than the usual lay persons who in my experience are too easily influenced by smooth talking defence advocates into imposing unduly lenient sentences. That said, with deductions for time spent in court, time already spent in police custody, time on remand and the other deductions the public never get to hear about, the guy is likely to be out again in under 6 months. What happens in the immigration hearing, if they decide to pursue a deportation is anyone’s guess Neutral

This isn't really surprising in this day and age.

The idea that you get a job at the bottom. Work hard, improve, impress, and move up by being promoted is not something the younger generation understand. And the problem is exasperated by recruitment agencies who make a fortune by people moving jobs.

Now you get a job. Shout a lot. Make a lot of noise. Big yourself up and then apply (or get head hunted by a recruiter) for another job at a better grade and more money. And thus this goes on. Seen it dozens of times. People brought in from away on giant salaries who are no better, sometimes worse, than the people who are loyal and they definately have very little experience.

There is a general skills shortage out there in engineering. If you have the guts, its the way to make your salary better, and its why no one hangs around anywhere very long. 0-4 years means that hardly any of these people worked for JLR when the old Defender was in its final days of production.

Oh and in the context of them trumpeting 85 ECUs in the new Defender - this was just 2 years ago:
