Not sure it isn’t the NCAP world to achieve a 5* safety rating, rather than Gerry’s World. Why it has to be so intrusive on country roads is another matter because I think it’s meant to prevent driver drowsiness on long motorway hauls and where I can see it being of value as this car will be a brilliant vehicle to drive on a trans-continental haul. Forget the Culinan or Bentayga or even the Full Fat, Jeeves we’re going in the New Defender. Could this be the first Defender that you could easily travel in the rear of with a man in uniform in the front to drive you? Land Rover can you add a powered glass division to the accessories please........one of these isn’t quite a nice as a piece of glass between front and rear seats......

I think these are all part of a suite of safety features that are to become mandatory under EU type approval regulations.

Curious as to why they did it as an animation. Noticed that whilst the video plays out the onboard compressor for airing up/down tyres whilst offroading: Click image to enlarge The Namibian team carried a separate air tank: Click image to enlarge Again, showing JLR's complete lack of experience/competency with using winches: Click image to enlarge But this was new to me: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Last year we had an Escalade ESV rental for three weeks when visiting family in the USA and Canada. On the first off-road excursion, and unmade, slightly boggy road (recently thawed) in Quebec it felt quite unstable at about 30mph, wandering all over the place. I put it down to wide 22” wheels and 3t weight, but realised after a couple of miles That the lane assist was getting confused by the ruts. Switching it off took 90% of the wandering away. |

I agree with his comments about the engine - 2.0lt in such a big car? Nah, won’t work........__
But it works fine, let’s say it’s sufficient for 99% of drivers, it’s no ball of fire after the PHEV Mini, but it sure is faster than my TDi300 90 and there’s no dead spot in the throttle/ turbo spool up pulling out of junctions like several of my previous automatic Land Rovers have had. I’m not sure if the noisy exhaust note on hard acceleration is tuned to sound like it does or if it is the engine being a bit strained, but it isn’t unpleasant, just reminds you that you haven’t noticed just how high the revs have climbed as you floor it and they do shoot way up pretty quickly. The iGuide suggests that you should not use high rpm for the first 3000kms - that is very hard when you are pulling into round-about or out of junctions. I’ve not tried Sport mode and TBH it not a function I’ve used much in any of my cars except the SDv6 RRS when I wanted to overcome that throttle lag to pull out on a country road and overtake someone. This is the first car I’ve owned in years with a running in procedure page in the owners manual! Usually it is just a sentence that says no high revs/no high loads in high gears etc for 1000 miles. IIRC Clearview rear view mirror is standard on all models above SE - if you are going for a base model or an S then it’s almost a “must have” option. The view out isn’t THAT bad but as soon as you get the rear seats occupied or a load in the back you will wish you had it and it’s not that expensive to tick the box and probably an option that will not loose value come time to trade it in unlike a lot of the other options on the list. Looks to me like they screwed up the final checks before delivery. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

He mentioned that there was 49 miles on the odometer on delivery - maybe the apprentice doing the PDI didn’t hammer it hard enough on the motorway run to MacDonalds drive through for the boys lunch for the reduced performance to flag up........ mine also had 49 miles on it on delivery but MacDonalds is at the end of the street that the showroom is on..... Not really a PDI failure, it wasn't properly assembled and should not have left the factory like that.

Bit like my window seal issue - end of line QC should have picked it up, but then QC further down the line also didn’t find it...... I wouldn’t expect a PDI to be looking into the depths of the engine bay but I bet that all service managers now have an urgent email to check that clip isn’t there on the P300’s Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I'd have thought it was both, assuming the PDI included a road test, which with the mileage on the Odo, it looks like it did. I'm wondering if the fault did show and the tech just cleared it down without spending any time investigating. Is there any log file held that can be read to see when the fault code 1st triggered? |
