Anybody remember the hydraulic folding steps that were fitted to the rear of the early Discoverys (1 and 2)? I wonder if something like that could be adapted for the side of a Defender? Darren

In the parts book, they don't seem to have a name. Elsewhere, where they are called anything at all, they're described as 'reinforcement'. However, as they are made of some kind of plastic and held in place by only a few bolts, I'd suggest that they are really intended as some sort of sound attenuation.
Whether they actually make a difference or not, I'm not sure as I've never driven a Puma model without them. I guess LR clearly thought they were worthwhile enough to bother fitting them, though. also my thoughts, an unusual way of attaching anything to a defender on the underside. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Yes - my hazy recollection was you would see them all with it drooping down when the gas strut failed. |

I thought they were the bits labelled in the parts catalogue as SHIELD. RH. UNDERBODY and similar for LH? Both appear to have a with and without side runners variant. |
