The old 90 was a perfect multi-purpose car for farm small family. You need the back space, fold away the back seats and get the fork lift to put an europallet in. You need to carry kiddies friends, use the back seats. You have to carry the missis and a bunch of her long paddock fence posts, put down flat the co seat load the posts get the missis on the back seat. Can you do this with the 'New', I doubt and when I read all that supercomputersh*t I am gonna puke. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel. |

I'm glad you had posted this. I had spotted it, but couldn't really believe it. I even popped into a stealers pre-lockdown to see if they had a 90 in (obvs, they didn't) to check.
I really thought a 90 was my next car, but this alone is a deal breaker. The seats don't go fully flat in my 2014MY RRS and it drives me insane, its really annoying (especially as they did in the previous model). However, not flat is infinitely better than a huge step in the load space. If they think this is workhorse they are sorely mistaken. The other deal breaker is the engine choices, but that is another thread... |

I was wondering that. Maybe if you have a drop down tailgate and canvas top.
Hard to get the fork lift near enough with a swing open door? |

My LR 88 has a bonnet mounted spare wheel so if I undo the homemade canvas check strap on the rear door it will open wide enough to allow a fork lift put a pallet in the back. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I don't think there will be a proper commercial Defender at all...At best they'll manage a VED qualifying for commercial purposes (Like the Ford Raptor Ranger)... However, It current;y doesn't manage the 1 tonne load capacity... So expect to get nailed on BIK, If you're lucky enough to be in the 40% tax bracket expect to be spending around £600 a month on BIK, Plus add in the chance that it won't manage to get in under the 40K luxury car cap and you'll be nailed on the road tax too... Plus there seems to be some doubt as to whether they can get it under the 2-ton unladen weight limit necessary to qualify as a Dual Purpose Vehicle, and if they can't it would be subject to LGV reduced speed limits. Regardless of that if used commercially it will need a tachograph, and I bet that they've given the installation of a tacho as much thought as they did in the last Defender, i.e., none whatsoever. |

I thought that the 1 tonne payload limit only applied to vehicles with 4 doors. Otherwise, it's commercial if it has no seats behind the driver and no side windows behind the driver. So the 1 tonne limit will apply for the 110, but not the 90.
I also don't think you need a tacho unless you are intending to tow long distances for work. Under 7.5 tonnes train weight and within 100km of your van's base are exempt unless your job is the towing, rather than the carrying of the items for your job. (I hope that makes sense!). https://movingon.blog.gov.uk/2015/01/21/ch...ourneys-2/ Hopefully, it won't weigh more than 3.5 tonnes (!), so won't need a tacho in most cases. However, it is likely to be over 2 tonnes, so the speed restriction will apply. Cheers Mike |
