2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Keswick Green
The whole new Defender launch has been very carefully stage managed and this makes me suspicious.

Mistakes happen and the way that an organisation deals with those mistakes is telling. Covering up an issue and/or treating customers' experience as an inconvenience when it betrays your corporate message is about the worst thing you can do.

Why should a dealer be expecting a payment for doing a PDI? Surely it should be done so the product is 100% surviceable for the customer. In fact it should leave the factory 100% serviceable for the customer.

When I was in the trade many years ago, it was normal for cars to be shipped to main dealers in a condition which required prep work prior to sale. In those days the most significant job was to remove the coating of protective wax that was applied to all our new cars (Peugeots, as it happens) as they left the factory to protect them during transit. It was also the case that we were the final pre-customer QC inspection, and it was surprising how many time shut lines needed adjusting, tools were missing, or of course dealer-fitted accessories had to be fitted (on some occasions "factory fitted" accessories were also fitted). What was surprising even in those days was the number of serious paintwork defects that used to arrive on new cars, and that is before the body damage that would sometime happen on the transporter. As a youngster it was a shock to me that the "new" car someone bought might already have had extensive panel work and respraying without the customer even knowing.

Whilst I believe that factory QC has improved dramatically for just about all makes I am sure that there are still vehicles which slip through (like the PowerfulUK Defender), and seeing new vehicles on transporters these days also makes it very evident that although wax is no longer the preferred protection mechanism there is still a lot to do before the vehicle that rolls of the transporter is ready to roll out of the showroom.

As far as I am aware also all manufacturers still require a PDI to take place, but the details of how it is funded would, I imagine, be down to the contract between the manufacturer and the dealer, possibly factored into the price of the vehicle. I do know from insider information in the not too distant past that JLR is pretty draconian about what dealers can charge for warranty and similar repairs, and I imagine that the balance between doing a decent job and getting paid for it by JLR is not easy. After all if your vehicle is in for a warranty repair, it is the dealer who you hold responsible for the standard of the repair, whereas it is actually JLR which determines how long the job can take and what work can actually be done.

I have a couple of old versions of what the work was supposed to entail:

I wonder whatever happened to those "over 1m completed configurations" they were crowing about in the press months ago?

At least 5 of them were mine, I'm sure many people had a go, saw the final price and didn't order.

I reckon at least one thousand must have been me....... I set a top budget of £61k......... because I took dealer stock rather than a factory order I didn’t get one option I wanted but could live without and spent £60428 instead! What I got albeit without the e-diff cost me £3500 less than a specced up D240 SE, which if I ever sold it would remain an SE with a heap of valueless options rather than a First Edition with 3 desirable options (tow pack tow assist and Secure-Pro) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

So is this NOT a fault but the way it's designed to work then?

Or he may of removed the video at the request of the dealership?? It's always good to have a good working relationship with your local dealer, no point in p*ssing them off within 20 mins of ownership, they have years ahead working together

Quite possibly or it they could have been contacted direct by JlR.
The issue now is Powerful UK may have lost any credibility as per independent and honest reviews. If they have indeed bowed to outside pressure to keep things from their viewers, can you really trust any of their output to be an honest assessment and not just an extension of JLR's PR department? I hope not as the Land Rover printed media have long been corrupted and online is our only resource for honest feedback and information.

Integrity is hard earned but easily lost. WARNING.

No idea, mine went in to the dealers in 2018 to have a look at it but as of yet nothing has been fixed but I haven’t pushed the issue as it cause no real issues.

I don’t understand LR’s attitude to owners pointing out problems - surely it saves the dealers and LR a fortune in fault finding for something that is related to someone on the production line in Nitra not doing their job properly, LR couldn’t have known and the dealers are not expected to put a high load on a new engine such that it triggers a fault in their work shop. Interesting too that my own car and PowerfulUK’s were both delivered with 49 miles on the odo, wonder how they rank that up because end of line to car train will not be far, offload from train to holding compound at Bremerhaven or Ghent for the car ship to UK is only a couple of km and from the UK ferry terminal to Gaydon holding ground is done by train or transporter. Internal driving prior to the dealership getting it cannot be more than 5-6 miles MAX. For my own car it could have been being held at my nearest LR dealership that is closed completely for C-19 Scottish lockdown whereas the car was delivered from the West Edinburgh dealership 30 miles down the M9 from the Stirling dealership who might have it it as their stock and who I originally had my deposit with! Someone in Strirling has missed out on a sales bonus as a result of C-19 furlough! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Pulling the video is rather odd. I cannot imagine the guy not being present here? Maybe he has some comment. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

This is what he is currently saying on the matter:

Latest update:
It appears he still has an engine warning light illuminated, and LR "are still in discussions" on the fix!

Reading between the lines they asked him to remove it and he caved.

That will bite him in the arse. The internet doesn't forget. WARNING.
