After 100miles in the 300Tdi I thought she deserved some TLC.
Treated her to new air filter, oil filter, engine oil change and G'box oil change and PS fluid. She repaid me by allowing most of these fluids, old and new, to coat all front suspension / axle / gearbox cross member, the floor, and me. This is despite knowing all of the above would happen and taking precautions to prevent them ![]() 2006 D3 - no longer with us and sadly missed 1997 300tdi d90 - now with electrics that work! - now with a brand new custom made soft top fitted …...…...............….new chassis now all fixed and driving like new 2010 D4 alas no more, but a lovely colour (Nara) 2016 D4 battery magically fixed with NOCO charger |

Been a good ( long ) weekend working on Wilbur.
Painted the wing mirror arms, mudflap brackets, windscreen wipers and towbar all courtesy of Halfords paint department. Pretty good actually. Despite masking as much as possible still got some overspray on the paintwork. Discovered that brake and clutch cleaner works wonders to get it off! And the original paint has stayed on - bonus. Ended up cutting the bolts off for the mudflap brakes as they were bolted with a nut that you can't get to without citing the subframe. Not doing that! Also fitted new folding side steps and finished this afternoon off by fitting a new rear step. Took about 2 hours longer than needed due to impossible to use hex rivnuts. I say impossible as the step is too heavy to hold in place whilst you bolt it all up. In the end used a scrap of metal and bolted that on first to expand the rivnut in the hexagonal hole. Then attached the step. Cheap Britpart sh*t as when the step is folded the arms catch the bolt heads and have already scrapped the paint. Should have known better. Anyway. Done now and very pleased with result. Windscreen fitting tomorrow. Not got the balls to do that myself so off to Auto Glass. I'm supplying the seal. Then maybe time for some new tyres before the MOT. Lockdown has been expensive. |
