I gave up TV in 2007 and never looked back. It's pure lies and propaganda.
As to recession, I think you would have to be crazy to not think a big one is coming, I expect it will make 2008 look mild. I'm lucky I've kept my salary etc to be at home on call, I reckon thousands of jobs are gone forever now. I've also heard from connected sources that this virus has been grossly exaggerated by the media. It begs the question why of course, just seems to be fear mongering for the sake of it. On a personal note, now being 39 and having spent most of the year so far on lockdown I guess I can kiss goodbye to the idea of ever finding a partner and having kids.. not sure how I'm going to come to terms with that in all honesty. I'd be lying if I said outright depression hadn't been rearing its ugly head again in recent weeks, especially around my birthday. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

You are not a lone there pal, I was hoping to try and date a few women, but that went right out of the window. Also depression is on the rise, my mate is battling it sadly, i am been an ear for him.
Yeah we are looking at a big one, we haven't really recovered from the 2008 crash. i think that's why boris stated go back to work again if you can. Just to keep things above water. I am not exactly sure how things at work will be for me at work. With car industrial been hit and miss since i started working in the industrial 5 years ago, last year builds were low, right a cross the board. Yeah the juke came to an end for us, and the new juke worked kicked off, but the builds for that are not strong at all. The new leaf is very weak too, service parts are hit and miss, a lot of stuff is coming to an end too. No new work is coming in at the moment. We have the work for the new nissan qashqai. But again there has been rumours that its been put back too. The new juke was too. that should have ended back in 2017. There is probably more people out there with depression anxiety and mental health issues than a few.
The BBC have been really pushing this for a few weeks on the Radio with advice and self help. I suppose if you look at what we are going through, we should not be surprised at all. Lockdown is not a great time for meeting people. I have an 80 year old friend who is going stir crazy being confined to his house. He admitted to me yesterday it was getting him down. I try and have a chat with him on the phone but when you haven’t been anywhere or done anything other than clean you teeth and work, conversation is quite difficult. |

One of the lasses has started to do on line Bingo on face book for everyone, just to keep people's chins up during this time. I up loaded a couple of songs on face book played by me. Which a few people enjoyed. At least you are keeping your friend active and stopping him from going nuts. Just hearing someone on the other end of the phone helps a lot. Stay safe mate .......... tv is a great comfort to lots of lonely people so i wont be advocating your cold Turkey approach!I dont think this is the forum to discuss the "pure lies and propaganda comment! so i wont take the bait other than to say if your feeling depressed please seek help early as the more isolated you become the harder it will be to scare off the black dog. |

Don't worry I was not attempting to start a debate on that matter. TV went over 13 years ago...I don't miss it. I still have dvds and youtube for things to watch.
Having battled the black dog pretty much all my life I'm at a loss what more I can do sometimes, I just keep on keeping on...having the IIA worked on has helped I must say. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I'm looking forward to getting back to work- Im self employed, and it has only been my primary income source for approx 18 months so it has been a right kick in the nuts- as the government scheme takes into account average self employed earnings over three years.....the previous 2 I had been employed and had minimal earnings via self employment so the calculation made for grim reading.
Frustratingly I had just got my status as a LANTRA provider sorted in December, and launched my new website in February.....bookings were just starting to come in! All of the training, events and consultancy work that is my break and butter has unsurprisingly, been either cancelled or postponed. Chris |

Yeah i think most of on here will have had some form of it last year etc, But that's another story. When i mate said that to me, was when the cases were less than a 30. Well before lock down was even thought about. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Bet it was kick in the balls for you that, Just say making a break and then this happens. Are the government doing anything to help you at all? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

@procta I have no business premises as such, so no help there- and the calculation on self employed earnings is based on 80% of self employed monthly income over the previous 3 years- Last year was my first full year trading solely self employed, previous years it had made up 15-20% of overall earnings alongside employed earnings
So there has been some help- but it equates to a pretty small amount. In many respects we are lucky, I was looking at committing additional money to the business- potentially taking on a small storage unit and leasing a vehicle, as it turns out we did neither which is just as well because we would definitely have been in financial difficulty had we done so. It has certainly made me rethink my strategy for the next few years. A family member has suggested we put a container on a bit of their land so we have some additional storage rather than renting somewhere- a bigger initial outlay for us to get one but longer term the cost will be far smaller....
