Hang on? your wages going back up to 100%? I thought those are still working, were still on their 100% wages. Its people like me who are mothballed are on Furlough, get the 80% of wages off the government. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

My employer KIER reduced 8000 salaried workers salaries between 7.5 and 20% for 3 months thus saving them nearly 10 million pounds and also furloughed another 2000 workers who get 80% salary if we chose not to accept it the salary reduction then we would be offered redundancy!! Very gracious of them. 2015 HT XS 90

That's pretty rough Shocked

Although they are being upfront, I wonder how many companies furloughed staff, but still made them work ?

With me been in production, The company i work for, stated i could be on limited hours sadly. So instead of doing a full blown working week, i could be down to part time hours.
A few lines are up and running but not sure if they are now on the proper books again. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Be a fare few, what has been happening, is that some companies have furloughed their staff, then pulled the plug on their staff. So they end up on the rockin roll. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

About half of the people I work with have been furloughed.

My Boss has been very fair and strict with those staff. He is paying the extra 20% of their wages, strictly enforcing the no work rule and encouraging these people carry out on-line training - and within reason, paying for it.

How would anyone find out if a company furloughed Staff and then insisted they did work?

I could quite easily have been furloughed and carried on working for my Boss! I haven’t been, but it would be so easy.

As no one seems to be bothered in paying union subscriptions, there is no way of complaining, if you want to keep your job.

My work place did pay us 2 months worth of wages which was great of them, then furloughed. They stated if we decide to do some temp work, we would have to give back the wages etc. So i could do some part time temp work but for the faff on letting my employer know, and then them sorting that out. i just stayed mothballed, but i am stand by for a phone call though, to go back in for induction and work. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

That’s very fair of your boss to top up staffs wages, KIERS wouldn’t do that. They didn’t even offer us on reduced salaries a reduction in hours. We asked if furloughed staff could be paid 80% those working from home to be offered the salary reduction and those of us on site putting ourselves at risk to be paid full salary but that was a NO.

Employees on hourly paid rates weren’t asked to take a pay cut because as HR put it “these staff are working on the coal face and are are still going to site each day” and who the hell do you think is supervising them I asked? Evil or Very Mad 2015 HT XS 90

In all fairness to my Boss, he hasn’t got the number of employees Kier has Whistle

He has been very fair, but there is a skills shortage out there in my type of employment so there is definitely a sweetener to stop people leaving.

Whether after all this there will still be a skills shortage and plenty of work, that I don’t know?

I sadly think you are spot on there Procta

I have stopped watching TV news. I find it too negative. I get what I need from the Radio and BBC News website.

I get depressed with experts telling ‘us’ what we should have done. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? No one knows what to do. We truly are within the unknown.
