One thing i say about defenders, is they can get very unsettled in the wet, with very bad tyres on! My old 300 gave me a few shaves in the past! The snow it was worse than the 306! ( that was with diff lock engaged too) The main thing is though every one was ok and the car is very easy to fix. I was thinking mismatched tyres are not good at the best of times never mind when inexperienced.......

Looking at the earlier picture, that odd tyre has clearly been fitted as the spare, as the original is flat. Darren

Budget tyres are a right nightmare! My 306 had budgets on the front and pirelli tyres at the rear. The full setup was asking for trouble. The 306 lads call pirelli tyres ditch finders, nearly every 306 that had those on, have had either a close shave or had the same experience that adafish's daughter has had. The fronts were that bad, as soon as it started to rain, the car would just wheel spin from 1st into 2nd gear! when you pulled away in the wet. Then there was the 300 TDi, with the cheapest possible wheels and tyres you could get on the market. Those were lethal in wet and were deadly in the snow. My dad didn't listen to me about tyres, until he had the same trick happened to him, with a jeep going up a hill. The back end went on him and he hit a house. By anyone’s reckoning that’s quite an achievement. Just glad they’re both ok. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

I used to love an old school really basic car. The German brands were good at them. They don't do them any more do they? I had a VW Golf Mk2 "C". It literally only had the features required to actually function. 4 speed box, no clock, no fag lighter, 1 mirror, centre console deleted, 2 speakers only for the radio. Just honest transport. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
