There will always be quite a bit of slack when the steering lock is engaged. If it was really tight you would never be able to release it!

Good point! But it does feel like i could ‘force’ it further opposed coming to a solid stop within a given range of movement.
Guess I need to compare to another of a similar age to see if it’s the same as mine. |

What you are feeling is probably the resistance of the tyres on the ground to the steering. If you are bothered try jacking the front axle up and trying again.
