Steering lock movement?
Quick sense check please - when the steering wheel is in the locked position, how much rotational movement is normal?

Whilst mine is definitely in the locked position I can still turn the wheel slightly although it does then meet some resistance but not a solid ‘stop’ as it were - having removed the cowls, the securing tab welded to the column is bolted up tight and the ignition barrel itself appears tightly fixed to column.

Is this a case of ‘they all do that sir!’

There will always be quite a bit of slack when the steering lock is engaged. If it was really tight you would never be able to release it!

Good point! But it does feel like i could ‘force’ it further opposed coming to a solid stop within a given range of movement.

Guess I need to compare to another of a similar age to see if it’s the same as mine.

What you are feeling is probably the resistance of the tyres on the ground to the steering. If you are bothered try jacking the front axle up and trying again.
