Something about those side exit exhausts always baffled me, with the exhaust suspended on rubbers does the exit not restrict this movement ?

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean. There is virtually no movement in the exhaust in its original position. Its bolted to the centre pipe securely and then using the original rubber mount point it has a bracket connecting it. There is fractional movement within the hole we have cut out but only fractional. There is probably about 3/4" clearance around the end of the exhaust where it exits so it can vibrate to some extent without touching the hole! |

I was wondering exactly the same but that's a clear explanation - theres a bit of movement but the hole is big enough to allow it.

Yeah part of the reason we did a lot of tack welding in situ was to get that central exit position. There's enough weird rattles and vibrations in a defender without adding to them! ![]() |

Makes sense now ellebarto, thanks for the info, I presumed it was a rigid connection at the exit point.

Hi fellas;
Reviving an old thread, but I’m really interested in fitting a side exhaust to my 2012 110. My vehicle is in the final throws of its LS3 6.2 litre and 6 Speed auto installation. Apart from interference with air bag jacks, are there any other cons to this mod? I’m only fitting as a cosmetic mod, but the vehicle does get heavy off road use in Australia. Thanks for any advice re this and best wishes all. Ken [/img] |
