No ... it is the space on top of a unit where the water tank is stored.
The area was left free to allow access to the water tank, but as the plan is to put the tank low down out side the vehicle then the new unit can go here. There is still access into the lower unit from the passenger 2nd row door. With the LED lights being low draw do you bother with a relay or just go direct to the switch? I was wiring in my rear LED work lights on the 110 the other day then stopped as I could'nt decide My 90 Challenge truck I just went without...to be honest did'nt think! 2 led spots straight to switch! Feed from live on ignition switch. Just wondering if I should put a relay in, I have left the 90 ones on for ages winching etc and switch and wiring seem fine. |

Mine are wired via a relay as part of the control arrangement as much as the current draw, as they're automated with the reversing light. Darren

My rear work light / reversing light is via a relay but only because the original was a standard 55w unit. Now with the new led unit it doesn’t need it in my eyes as it draws very little. When the roof was done in Germany they fitted two lights internal neither had relays and when asked he said too low draw.

Thank you for your reply. I have a separate switch on the 90. Then I can leave on when winching etc. Mine is not through reverse light though that would be handy! |

My front spot led and light bar is all through relays. Like yourself they have normal lights HID etc before so I keep thinking it probably is unnecessary. I might just wire the switch direct. Save a bit of extra wiring and hiding the relay in the fusebox etc |

It does also depend on the switch that you plan to use. I'm using genuine push buttons, which don't have a particularly high rating. Darren

My front driving spots are via a relay as they are very bright and are independently switched and linked to the main beam selection,
The rear work light is linked to the side work light and again via a relay as the wiring was fitted by the main dealer when I bought the vehicle ... I’ve just got to move the feed to the 2nd battery and away from the ignition side of the relay so as they can be used with the ignition off. Had a weekend camping out with poppy again last week with landrover overlanding friends who have the same top as we do.
It was good to see how well the top had held up after 2 yrs continual use in remote areas. No leaks or deterioration of the fabric, hinges or seals. The zips to the side flaps seemed to be the only issue and they have been able to get arround this with velcro. Fitted another small level of security in the form new bonnet protectors which replace the bushes in the bonnet hinges on both our 110’s.
Bit fiddly to get the bonnet hinge lined up with the slot in the new bush, and had to be very careful not to touch the bonnet to the windscreen wiper, but once in and the ‘key’ fitted it works very well and will slow down any possible removal. https://www.designdevelopmenteng.co.uk/sto...p208172877 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |
