Defender 110 load bay carpeting and sound deadening

Hi all,

I don’t have carpeting in the 110 Country from under the back seats backward. I’m fairly sure it used to have some (there’s a retainer trim at the back door), but it disappeared at some point in its life.

I want to sound proof the back (eventually the whole thing) and carpet it all, including up on the inner whee arch boxing. Thinking thicker on the bed and thinner on the wheel arches maybe.

I’m ideally looking to avoid the mega expensive sound kits and was thinking 2mm butyl sheeting. Anyone made their own? Worthwhile or a false economy?

Also, any tips on carpeting it, could stump up for a full OEM set, but it’s eye watering.

Hoping I can benefit from someone’s experience here!

FatMat Mega Mat is the best value for money (at least I was last I checked!) Theh also do cheaper options

Covering that loadspace makes one of the biggest differences when soundproofing a Defender.

As the rear is a generally a very simple square shape its easy enough to line it yourself with some "van" carpet off ebay. Just use a heavy duty high temp spray glue. Instagram @defender_ventures
