Not 100% but I think RTV will damage the pvc insulation on the cables. As long as they are properly crimped and assembled then they are pretty good for water resistance. It would be worth getting hold of some contralube (or similar) to keep moisture off the terminals though. I think pretty much all the Econoseals that I have witnessed having failed are due to corrosion of the cable/terminal at the point of the crimp.

I always put a smear of Vaseline on the terminals to try and prevent corrosion.

I'm sure that would be fine.

If assembled correctly they don't need any extra sealing. As above adding something extra is likely to be irregular and let water in.
Remember that the narrow part of the seal should be crimped inside the wider end part of the terminal, not just pushed in afterwards (as so many do).  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

If you have really exposed superseals (2 pin & 3 pin) I tend to use the rubber boots to go over the back of them which give a nice tight seal. I then use some amalgamating tape on each end of the boot to completely seal it, whilst still giving it some natural flexibility. Never had an issue using this method in the wheelarches of our two works ifor williams trailers. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

I am not sure I have ever seen a boot for Econoseal III (the most common type as used on Defender lights etc). I cant think how they would fit onto the shape of the connector, especially the Female half.

The clue is in the name, EconoSEAL ! When assembled correctly they are sealed.

Sorry, yes you are correct I had intended to write superseal haha. Need more coffee!! You can use a 6/8pin Deutsch boot, but make sure its of the matt coloured bellows type, not the smooth plastic. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

I have crimped the rubber seal to the end of the pin (which I didn't know you needed to do until a YT video showed me)

I don't think you'll neccessarily get one to fit over a 4 pin as they don't make them specifically for econoseal. I personally hate econoseals with a passion and tend to go to a superseal for most hidden stuff. On my defender I'm currently using deutsch DT with the proper backshells (if onto conduit) or the shiny boots with glue shrink if onto harnesses. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader |

Send us a link to what you ordered. Tyco AMP I see most often used to refer to a superseal, although strictly its a brand name of TE Connectivity nowadays, and one of those connectors that has been copied hundreds of times. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader
