There's a few stories from late 2019 about it getting a BMW V8 turbo.

There’s been a few Range Rovers out testing with BMW engines.

Wouldn’t that count as a non-essential journey?
Also regarding the V8 New Defender - something to go the same way as the Discovery 5 SVX of 2 years ago Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Remember the thread about new Defender owners not wanting to fill the boot up to the headlining with things?

If that's a company car, won't that fall foul of PUWER?

Thanks for the Video share Naks.

The rub is that knowing the Eastnor estate. They had a play up on the sheep field where the concrete moguls are then moved up the hill to the rock crawl, (which they descended Rolling Eyes ) and then before you know it they have turned their backs on Clenchers mill and Hospital ( Just a stone throw from the field) and gone off back across the estate to go up along the ridgeway. Sadly having driven all those tracks in my defender it didn't really break a sweat either. So to me the new defenders off road ability remains a mystery.
We won't mention they appeared to have been lead about by a D5 anyway.

The winching bit wouldn't have stopped most vehicles anyway, apart from trials 80's with their 4.6's and insa turbos on, that has been run through there if I'm recognising that bit correctly. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

If you're selling them outside the EU it won't count towards the EU sales CO2 average, sell as many as want in the rest of the world!
Then if you want to sell a really exclusive (very high profit) model inside the EU, the low number sold won't dent the average much. Or you sell as many as you can and stop just before the average becomes illegal. Laughing

Either way the sales inside the EU will be fully compliant with all environmental legislation. Just as every manufacturer will be doing and saying "look how good we are".
Shame it's finished the Suzuki Jimny in the EU though.

Having been driven around Eastnor estate many times as a child in series 1 and 2 Land rovers and even being in the front seat of a series 1 as it rolled down the lower part, of what was the referred to gearbox hill, nothing that they show is in this video is impressive. The pretender is just that, a pretender. Land Rover 1950 series 1

Videos like that are not helping with the new defenders reputation in the land rover community. They are are in a very difficult spot with PR on this and will never be able to please all. The Defender looks as capable off-road as the old one (standard spec vs standard spec) and it will be as capable if not a little more than the rest of the range. The D5 in front was going to attract comment and whoever let that happen needs to have a sit-down with the boss.

They need to approach this on a new angle to appeal to the new customers maybe on how it is as good off-road as the old one but it also provides the safety, comfort and modern day trappings a normal family car needs to have too. For me thats the impressive thing about this car it looks like it can do both off-road and on road well which is a very impressive achievement. Towing, I want to see more towing road tests. No more off road jollies I have seen enough, its good at it. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

My question would be how does any of that ^^^ differentiate it from a Discvery (more the 1-4 than the current one)? So far the only advantage I can see is the improved wading depth, but only a brave minority are going to get anywhere close to that. 2011 110 USW

^^^ It could be argued that that is either JLR's fault or McGovern's fault. If JLR hadn't allowed this new model to be called 'Defender' or McGovern hadn't decided that it should be the successor to our Defenders, then the comparison would never be made. By calling it Defender, selling and marketing as Defender, getting the PR machine working full time to allude to how good this Defender is (and whilst not directly saying so, implying that the old one wasn't as good, iconic or not), a journalist is automatically going to compare the two. I also have no doubt that the differences between old and new are rammed down their throats during their JLR organised test days. It'll only change when the vehicle is on the open market and available for journos to test them independently and compare them alongside other brands.

There is a subtle difference between highlighting the improvements (many of which are subjective anyway) and just saying the old one was crap. But that distinction appears to have been lost in a lot of write ups. I would be more interested in the views of someone who loves (and "gets") the old one when reviewing the new one. 2011 110 USW

And those that love the old one are saying the new one is crap. What’s the difference?

Are they? I think it's more a case of saying it doesn't seem to have much link with the old, not that it is uncomfortable, unreliable etc which it certainly won't be. 2011 110 USW
