Refreshing the rear crossmember
Just wanted to share a very satisfying job I did in the last couple of days giving the rear a refresh.

Used the Buzzweld kit which worked amazingly well and also brought the bracket of the mud flaps back to life.

Only issue was I could have been better using the spray can as didn't get the most perfect surface finish!

Very nice, did mine last year.

A little tip as we all have time on our hands at present.

The mud flap bracket covers a drain hole in the sloped section of the cross member. Drill out a corresponding hole in the mud flap to let water and muck out.

Why Land Rover never thought of that shall forever remain a mystery..... Laughing

Looks much better, did you have any left over? I'm planning to do this myself but was wandering if theres much left to do any other areas that need tidying.

Thanks

Thanks, to be honest you could do with another set if you wanted to other areas- I felt like I had just enough to do the crossmember and tow bracket below with one of each of the products. I bought 2 sets (4 cans) and did part of the front bumper, mudflap brackets and the rear crossmember bits here with none left over. Keswick green 2007 Defender 90 TD5

Yeah for sure- I used the dual set on a few things works well- will give a matte finish though if that’s what you’re after Keswick green 2007 Defender 90 TD5

What did you use to strip it back to the metal?

I used a wire brush drill cup and it came off pretty well- I have heard of using a flap disk which I think goes on an angle grinder. I managed pretty easily using the drill though. This was when I started with it-

Just stripped all the furniture off mine and gently went over with a 120 grit flapper wheel (only took a few minutes). Had been over with the brush cup previously, but was taking forever to get through the *good* paint that was left.
