United Kingdom 2005 Defender 110 Td5 HT Bonatti Grey
Air con blower fan not working
With all this self isolation stuff I thought I might as well sort out the air conditioning on my TD5. When you turn it on it does nothing. Well except for the engine sound changing so that rules out the pump clutch at least. Any suggestions for things to look at? And if its important its a below dash type. No idea who makes it as it does not look like the standard land rover one.

Would also like to replace the missing vent and temperature dial so if someone can identify the brand that'd be much appreciated. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Charcoal,

I'd check the fan resistor block? Are you missing all 3 speeds? If not, fuse?

Thanks guys, yes all 3 speeds missing. Where is the resistor block for the fan? Dorset would this fuse be in the standard fuse box behind the gear stick? None look like they are for AC. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Resistor block on mine is on the passenger side of the engine bay in front of the heater box. I suspect if you have not speeds at all it is unlikely to be this, but worth checking. My AC is the in-dash type from the 80s, so the setup may be different.

Thanks Monty had a look in the engine bar but there is nothing there so it must be with the blower. Im not entirely sure Mo, Id think so as its not the genuine bar but its unbranded and I cannot find any ones that look the same. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Mo, nope - it was a factory fit option from 1988. I think it is the same as you see in export cars / NAS spec. Has a harrison compressor and a different dash plate which replaces the shelf. I can send some pics if of interest. I had it rebuilt last year so it all functions - rather helpful with the V8 in the heat.

Charcoal, I'll try and take some pictures today for you. One other thing I found on mine (while the aforementioned rebuild was going on) was an inline fuse hidden in the dash..

Thanks monty, your in dash type set up looks much more effective than the TD5 knee cooler.
Charcoals set up isn't the same as the TD5 as it doesn't extend to the ends of the under dash which leads me to think that it is an aftermarket fitment.

Thanks Monty, took it out the footwell today to have a look and couldn't find anything that resembled a resistor. It also seemed to be getting volts to the motor so maybe thats busted? To be honest thinking I might just get rid of it and use the pump as an air compressor or something. Yes Mo its not even a standard Land Rover one. Had a look all over it for any sort of branding and the only thing I found was a sticker with what looked like a serial number and a part number, the latter being EV15120 but couldn't find anything about it online. It is definitely for a Defender though as it fits too perfectly to be a generic model. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

Charcoal - apoloiges, will send the resistor picture today. I believe your system was an aftermarket one which there are details around for (I think it is still for sale somewhere).
