I run BAS 170 BHP tune since it was first produced, also a BAS intercooler, LR Raised Air Intake all fully sealed with Nugget stuff interconnecting pipe to the air filter box
As advised by BAS I modded the air box taking out the impeller and a section of the tube in the air box to improve air flow, So right to put a RAI on the vehicle if traversing dusty environments, I work on stone tracks and my air filter befor ethe RAIn was blocked after 7000 miles. Just do the air box mod and preferably seal the pipe system from the RAI to the airfilter box |

Click image to enlarge Not the best pic of the bracket , but give some you an idea , p.s the oversized air filter was replaced soon after this pic I think I got mm and inches mixed up,when ordering I think the above fitment / pics would work well also, especially with roof racks etc |

I wrote an article on RAI, wolf/donaldson air boxes and the flow of air posted here sometime back. a big problem with many types of RAI is that the RAI joins a squashed rectangular shape intake duct with a small cross sectional area on the inside of the wing (300tdi and TD5), yet the inlet on many air boxes (donaldson certainly and i think bog standard LR) is 3 inch as is the RAI tube itself on many models. Designs like the naka can provide a 3 inch tube all the way into the air filter box. the engine is bound to perform better. So look to air flow from top of RAI through to air box. I use a donaldson topspin head - see the spec on their website, it is better than many mushroom types for air flow and dust spinout, but less likely to suck rain water in than the front facing air ram type. 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent |

There appear to have been some suggestions for just attaching the intake at the bulkhead / windscreen bracket. I personally would definitely have a fixing point much higher up near the top of the windscreen. If you do forestry / wood work then you'll almost certainly catch the top somewhere.
My plastic jobby has been battered against trees plenty of times and survived 12 years of abuse on the vehicle. If it had only been attached at the top I can guarantee it wouldn't have. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

Fair point matey, it’s a pretty sturdy item, but perhaps a rubber spacer between the he snorkel body and the windscreen frame may assist with frontal impact from trees etc ?
Just and idea |
