Well, one positive (as I sit in government enforced isolation in France and with the parts I ordered for my next Def upgrade not having arrived yet), the quality of some of the memes and videos on What’s App are truly brilliant. In testing times, humour comes to the fore, and some people are very, very clever/witty. I’ll try and post some up here.

I think that over the coming months they will work out a 'one-off' way of grading students at all levels for this year...........

Virgin mobile giving unlimited calls and an extra 10gb data from 23rd March - 21st April.

Big thanks to all the shop workers. It can't be easy dealing with frustrated and often badly behaved customers. Not to mention the added risk of infection and often for minimum wage. WARNING.

^ +1, I usually do my shopping weekly in town but now walk up to the village general shop - no fighting over stuff on nearly empty shelves as the village shop only has a couple of empty spaces on the shelves (toilet rolls have to be asked for and they bring them from the back shop so the shelf isn’t stripped of stock and it’s the same for hand soaps and anti-viral surface cleaner). The young girl behind the till was given a hell of a time by a truck driver this morning because she would only give him 2 rolls of toilet paper........... one old lady from the village in the queue didn’t half give the truck ie a yelling at for being greedy and suggesting that he was probably stopping in all the little villages on his journies collecting stuff that is in short supply. I doubt he’ll be calling back in our village shop again after that reprimand! I used to be a shop worker, and I know what hell they are going through, I have been there with it all at Xmas time. They don't get thanked enough at all. Treated like  sadly, I am on their side
its just silly the way people have gone on with the panic buying, and not thinking at all. There is going to be a lot of waste when this passes over like. I was going to go for a makro run for my beer, which lasts for months, the last lot i got just before xmas there, so its lasted. Also we take up their offer on the toilet rolls too, as it much cheaper than the supermarket, and we get the very large soap powers etc. Which again lasts, but today i was going to go, and discovered that they were closing at 2 pm today, and had wound their times right in to 3pm on a week day, when it was nearly 8pm. So i decided to give that the elbow. Sainsburys had limited gear in, i couldnt help but laugh! Due to how daft people are! I tell you lads though, the shop workers are going to have a nasty job filing everything back up again. Once all this is over! The good Tesco have announced a 10% rise in the hourly rate for staff back dated to March 9th. The bad Across the border in Northern Ireland students have been engaged in school closure parties 
Italy. 793 deaths in one day. Young people need to be more responsible. There was a discussion on radio today and it was stark. This thing is only heading one way and we need to do the simple things now to stop the health system being over run. It was stated that WHEN that situation arises cases will be examined as to how to use resources most efficiently. Those with the best chance of survival by the use of these scarce resources will be prioritised. So if a young person needs a ventilator as part of their care and my daughter needs one the young person will be prioritised and get the ventilator. Even if this person has been out and broken all of the simple rules that could help to ameliorate the effects of this onslaught. That makes me mad. Finished work yesterday and we have been self isolating. I've been rereading "In the footsteps of Alexander the Great" by Michael Wood complete with a Times atlas (the COMPRHENSIVE edition of course) open on the table so as I can follow the wanderings. What is needed is for mother nature to take a hand and unleash another Beast from the East for a couple of weeks. Watch your LR's too as with a lot on everyones mind it's easy to forget things. Times like this is when theives strike.
Cars, trucks, trailers anything when people are distracted. Sky gave me extra phone data and stuff too. All businesses are expected to do their bit, especially big business and I think most definitely are. Despite the self isolation scenario, many are still ignoring it especially at supermarkets. In my part of the country, a positive of the virus is the totally clear skies overhead, like they used to be when I was young - and for the previous one million years - and before we started filling the sky with aluminium and burnt fuel.
The massive reduction in all types of global pollution has been brought about by a microscopic organism, and sadly not by a species that describes itself as "intelligent". |
