God help America... Whistle Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Hope they remembered to get the correct size ammunition - that could be embarrassing when trying to bag that raccoon for dinner

I was in Cabelas once and they had a similar rifle to this that you could buy. Good for squirrel control.... Whistle

I see ISIS is avoiding Europe now too.

Perhaps the prevention of freedom of movement wasn't such a bad thing after all. Whistle

I would say over time a lot will change over all this, I highly doubt China will be very popular that's for certain.
As was mentioned a few threads back, it does make you wonder if it was deliberately created or not.

Whichever way it's looked at, it's very likely it has came from unscrupulous behaviour one way or another. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Did you get the future crystal ball out for at did you? Laughing

It's a good job the whole world didn't rely on the Chinese manufacturing market or there would be a much worse problem.
All the more reason to bring manufacturing home - after all China hasn't got a quality reputation to its name either.
They were also the plastics pioneers too, and we all know how many problems have been brought about with that too unless used responsibly.

Of course, the vast over population that we are in the world vast irresponsibility always become an issue sooner or later. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Well full marks to United Airlines for customer service.
We had booked to go to New York for Easter which of course aint going to happen. Their website promised to re schedule flights with no extra charge so we thought we'd go in November instead as thats my next week off where we have nothing planned.
Just to be sure I phoned their helpline and was told 'go whenever you like it won't cost you a cent extra' so I re booked and there was no charge despite being weekend flights which are usually dearer They also refunded our seat selection options (although I spent it again on the next flight).
Ditto with the hotel where we had planned to stay. I'm not sure if it would have been that straightforward if I had booked with a third party like expedia. These days I find its usually the same price to go direct anyway
Just hope the madness has calmed down by then

I’ve worked in intensive care medicine for over 20 years - a consultant intensivist for 17 of them. I’m astonished that anyone can truly believe that we can magic thousands more intensive care facilities out of nothing in the coming weeks. The UK’s intensive care service is grossly under-facilitated (far less beds than many European ‘partner’ states per person population) and always has been. Some of the larger hospitals units are running at over 95% occupancy all of the time.

As a result, we have to say ‘no’ a lot when it comes to requests for admission to intensive care. ‘No’ because we don’t feel there’s a good chance of a final cure for the patient. ‘No’ because we haven’t got a bed. ‘No’ because the patient doesn’t need admission just yet. The concept of refusing admission to ITU being an option is not something the general public are aware is exercised every day in every hospital all of the time.

The NHS is in a calm before the storm at the moment as all elective surgery (bar some cancer work) and outpatient clinics have been cancelled. At this very moment, we have intensive care beds. It will not stay like this.

One has to remember that an intensive care ‘bed’ refers to the bed space itself, 24 hour nursing and medical staffing, physiotherapy, equipment (lots more of it than just a ventilator), pharmacy support etc. It’s not as simple as plugging someone into a machine unfortunately.

The other thing folk aren’t generally aware of is that severe viral pneumonia/pneumonitis renders conventional ventilation of the lungs very difficult - requiring complex modes of ventilation, medical expertise in their use and continuous experienced nursing input. You can’t just ‘do it’ with any old ventilator - they don’t have the required modes to be effective (I’m thinking anaesthetic machine ventilators, transfer ventilators etc.). ITU ventilators are complex, sophisticated pieces of equipment at Defender prices each (ours cost over 20k per unit).

Nor can you provide true intensive care just anywhere. What’s becoming clear is that a lot of the Covid-19 group suffer multiple organ failure. In other words, septic shock, kidney failure etc. The resource required to provide support for this is huge per patient. The triage if the doomsday scenario does become reality will be that if you have more than ‘simple’ respiratory failure, we won’t be able to treat you. Of course, that means death. It will be brutal.

It doesn’t get better quickly either even if you do survive. You’re potentially looking at over a month before recovery - recovery being able to be weaned from invasive support that is, not anywhere near to going home.

I truly hope it doesn’t turn out as it could do. I really do.

Thanks Doc P for a very informative post from the business end of the NHS.

A quite shocking post Shocked

It's a crying shame that the suits, bean counters and the politicians don't listen more to you and your colleagues then maybe our NHS would be in a better shape?

We (the UK) have this hell bent attitude that our NHS is world beating. Sadly this is far from the truth and money which should be channeled into services, equipment and Staff get frittered away by endless bureaucracy, red tape and poor procurement. Lets face it, it's money that comes from our Taxes!

I am very proud of the NHS and I am probably more indebted to it than most on this forum for a good many reasons. I would not be as well as I am if I lived in the USA. A country that is very good at telling its people who marvelous it is. I hope that after this tragedy that is Corona Virus, we will all take a long hard look at its future and its importance to us.

Sorry. Rant over.

@Doc P

Reflecting the thanks as said.

Is your post about people with underlying issues, as the recovery rate is reported as huge?
