There's https://www.mdengineering.co.uk/shop/adapt...2-gearbox/ but it's not cheap! “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

However, from the page I linked:
So maybe that's enough... I'd be curious to know how that'd go, keep us posted! “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique. -- 2009 2.4 Puma Defender 90 SW 1979 Land Rover Series 3 88" |

Yes, I am evaluating the change only for the very slow first speed.

Hi, that kit will adapt the engine to the MT82 gearbox, but what is the arrangement to connect the gearbox to the transfer box?
The kit does not show any parts to do that, so I would assume you will also need the puma adapter housing and intermediate shaft. If this is indeed the case, then use the upgraded Ashcroft shaft kit. There are many threads on this forum about the failure of standard shaft between the puma gearbox and transfer box. Sometimes at very low miles. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic62521...;start=120 Last edited by DSC-off on 4th Mar 2020 8:47pm. Edited 1 time in total |

From the MD description,
"When this kit is fitted with the MT82 instead of the R380 in a 300 Tdi Defender the transfer box is 55mm further back than the 300Tdi installation. This puts the transfer box in the same position as the Tdci Defender. An optional mounting kit is available to mount the MT82 gearbox on the standard 300tdi gearbox chassis brackets" So that will require Puma prop shafts too, due to the change of length. It's starting to sound like you would need a complete puma transmission between the clutch and the axles. |

I wonder what the gearing would be like with an MT82, original 1.4 ratio LT230, and a TDi engine. Low first would be exceptionally low, I'd think.

That is exactly what I want! The Defender is used for exploration on the mountain where there is no road and only large stone is found. regards |

And 1st gear in low range is not sufficient for that? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Oh, I just realized your profile shows you have a Puma already, does it mean you want to keep all the transmission from the Puma and replace the engine with a 300TDi? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

An underdrive? Same price as the adaptor plate. Struggle will be finding one. Cheers
