Can you imagine the cost of repairing that no time to die discodefender thing ?
Is that a bolt on guard , how about inertia switches , bet in the real world that would be a write off !!!! |

Undoubtedly a write-off in normal insurance terms. I'm not even sure how you'd go about repairing a bent aluminium monocoque structure.

If you read articles like this:

Sure there are ways around some of the expensive tooling and workshop setups, but it does surprise me the number of crashed salvage vehicles taken away on the back of tatty beavertail transits to be put back on the road. |

seen on FB, from Dave van Graan, a chap who is doing a walking tour around Namibia:
"Here are a few photos of the new Land Rover Defender. Land Rover is currently conducting a 2 month test on these vehicles. They drive much the same route that I walked plus a few other tough routes from Opuwu, van Zyls Pass, to the Skeleton coast National Park, Puros, Sesfontein and back to Opuwu. They do not spare these cars and they are really well tested. They really have a new look and nothing like the old Defender." Not much wheel travel. They claim 12.4” at the back and 10.5” at front. But I’m not sure how they measure it. In my view it should be measured like normal position +/- 10.4” - in other words 21.0” and 24.8” total front and back.
This equals to about 3/4 of wheel diameter altogether - judging by the pictures it looks like that would not be so, but cannot be sure if the picture shown is maximum flex. That would not be great, but decent for an independent suspension... Even though an awful lot of wheel-in-the-air time compared to The Defender. But from all the videos I’ve seen, its not unstable in the air - its wider, longer and supposedly with lower center of gravity. Independent suspension and very rigid frame/chassis is not bad in itself. One of the greatest, if not the greatest off-road heavy truck ever built, Czech Tatra - uses precisely this concept + all locks. But depends on how its implemented. Another truck from the light category, Pinzgauer - also uses independent suspension and despite decent travel it often looks like its about to rollover at any moment - in the end it almost never does even on large rocks. Here, having 2 out of 3 locks and with a good TC in front it should work just fine for anything other than (more extreme) rock crawling (which is not my thing anyway). |

I hadn't noticed before how small the opening window on the second row doors is, and how large the fixed part is by comparison, really odd proportions.
I wonder what's in the door to make this necessary, it looks as though the drop glass could have been wider. |

Click image to enlarge From memory the inner door has a huge double seal that follows the wheel arch and so does limit the vertical drop available for the glass. I think problem isn’t what’s inside the door but the amount of wheel arch that intrudes into the door cut out stopping the door window from dropping completely Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |
