OK the switch is just used as a trigger for the timer. The lamp in the switch is in parallel with the output from the relay, so it only illuminates if the screens are switched on.
If no 12V supply on the white/green wire with the key in position 2 (ignition on) then check fuse 4, but this supplies other things like the instrument pack, headlamp relay and the relay which supplies the heated seats and electric windows (if fitted). @martin I am having a stinker trying to resolve my heated screen issue. 2.4 puma My switch doesnt show a light when pressed at all with the car running. With your comments above, am i right in thinking if i dont have any light in my switch, the light is powered from the heated screen relay and not the timer relay? So replacing that should be my first port of call? Thanks |

My heated screen has stopped working.
When I press the heated screen button, the orange light only comes on for a second before switching off again. …. I answered my own question, seems engine has to be running for it to stay on. However my heated screen still doesn’t work. I have 12v to the purple cable on the left of the screen but no heat. So my guess is the screen is goosed. Maybe the big chip in the centre has something to do with it… |

The orange light is feedback from the heated screen relay (light is parallel to the screen as in my comment above), rather than an indication that the screen itself is working or not working.
So if the orange light comes on and goes straight off, the relay is working, and is being controlled by the timer. It's just being turned off again by the timer. This points at the timer, or the engine running signal wire. The engine must be running for the timer to start running, otherwise you get exactly the behaviour you've experienced - on for a second or two then off again. On a Puma this engine running signal comes from the instrument cluster. Main question before going any further... are you trying this with the engine running? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

OK you edited whilst I was typing
Do you test for 12V across the screen or use a different earth point? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

My multimeter ran out of batteries as I was trying to test the screen.
So when Amazon brings me more batteries tomorrow I will try that. |
