Shame about the imperfect experience some have had with Mantec though.

What are people's experiences of fitting OEM? I have the cheapo Rebel 4x4 job and although not up there with the top quality guards, it was cheap, easy to fit, built like a tank and has saved my steering on several occasions.

I have an OEM bar, bought it from ebay, cost a tenner. I don't like snowplough style guards. if you need to be pulled out of the s&^% backwards and you're in deep all it does is force the mud/snow/sand/whatever up into the engine bay. I take mine green laning all the time and it's ideal, plus it doesn't weigh much either. Have given it a knock or two as well and it's very robust. Four bolts, one of which is already in there anyway. Takes about half an hour to fit.

Out of interest, how many people who fit steering guards have retained the side steps?

Hi all...

I picked up one of these from the Billng show, at the Mantec stand, and I'm about to attempt to install it on my 110. However I have a few questions as well! The instructions are a bit cryptic. I admit that I'm mechanically a beginner, but the instructions just seem a bit confusing.

- For example, they're split down the middle - with a black arrow and "1999" pointing to the right. Am I to assume that, as my vehicle is post 1999, that I'm to follow the steps on the right side of the page?

- Also - they're is one step, when you are removing the factory bolts, that shows a hand ostensibly twisting a bolt. Is that Mantec's way of saying "hand tighten"?

- Red-dot mentioned he fitted it w/o the aluminium plate first. Do the bolts that hold to plate need to be torqued to a particular setting - do do you just tighten them up as much as you can?

- Last but not least... when it comes to removing the grill - my screws are covered by black caps. Do they just pop off? I've been reluctant to remove them in case there is another way of removing them.

Having fitted a few steering guards - nothing should require instructions.

Loosely connect the bolts (Bracket to guard) and offer it up to give you an idea of inside/outside the chassis etc.

Then unbolt, connecting each side in the appropriate holes (you shouldnt be able to miss them) dont tighten anything at this stage

Fit the plate and then do everything up hand tight until its all in place.

You didnt forget to waxoyl any covered sections did you...

then bolt up tight - job done.

Hope you dont find the steering bolt rusting like i did mine. Mike
