I have recovered my £1k deposit and will rethink. A 18/68 plate LRD5 HSE/HSElux SDv6 at £45-50k feels the better vehicle for me atm. Review situation in a year or so. Still got invite to see one in dealer showroom, so will do that.

I bet that, basis what the sales drop of D5 v D4 is stated as there will be some sort of redesign to the D5 - less luxury, less fancy options, rear number plate relocated and a drop in prices? Interesting to read how RRS sales have gone from strength to strength. I remember at launch in 2005 when I took delivery of my 1st Sport on launch day the dealer told me I was lucky to get a car as even on launch day the waiting list was out to 9 months and growing longer. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

My order went into the system this week - anticipated delivery sometime in July (maybe) - southeastern USA
4 cylinder petrol P300 110S with lots of upgrades in Fuji White - all the off road stuff except the lunch box and ladder.
And a very nice black interior - basically HSE spec on the inside.

I'll have to give up my Discovery 5 TDV6 (which has been an exceptionally nice vehicle) but I do anticipate taking the new Defender off road, towing a caravan, and using it as our everyday transportation.

I've been watching all of the forums for over a year, seen all the hand wringing about "its not like the old trucks" - but ...
I've already got three of those - two Series IIA's and a Defender 90 - all of which my wife doesn't particularly care for (except for maybe the 1967 SIIA 88" which she thinks is "cute"). She will like the new Defender which allows me to daily drive a Land Rover while reserving the old stuff for my private use when she isn't along to remark how noisy, smelly, uncomfortable and hard to climb in and out of they really are for someone who is 5'2".

congrats Jack, in regard to your order, is it just the dealers taking it, or has Land Rover US
called it forward in order to get a manufacturing slot. In Australia our orders are not progressing
past the dealerships/deposits at present

My Order is in the Order Holding Pool, still no idea when it will be built or delivered. This is info from my dealer I have also had a message from Land Rover on Facebook saying the same. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

I know a guy at JLRNA corporate who has reviewed my order in their system and emailed me that its set for July - now whether that's a July production or a July delivery, I don't know. The dealer was ordering cars for their initial stock so they would have stuff on the floor when the Defender hits the market - I'm not sure if my car got put in the first batch or second batch of cars for this particular dealer but it sounds like the order is being forwarded on to a manufacturing slot at this point.

Obviously I'm hoping for a July delivery. Tom did say that the factory winch kit will be available late Spring/Summer and will be dealer installed. It uses a Warn Xeon Platinum winch according to the technician that went out to California for orientation. No idea yet what the cost of that will be.

It begs the question as to whether any diesel, and small diesels in particular, are really suitable for many drivers once you apply Euro 6 requirements.

I've been getting letters and emails from my dealer for the past month with the same blurb, "buy now to avoid the tax rises"

So what's the story here? Are JLR struggling to get their vehicles past the new tests, are the new tests much stricter, or were the old tests easy to cheat in VW style? Or all 3?

Up to £960 VED for the Velar and the Discovery Sport.... Shocked

The common engine here is the 180 and 240ps Ingenium engines. The 240ps is going into the new Defender.

Who in their right mind would pay that, if JLR are having trouble now they will soon be properly fooked very soon.

As for that BS of buying and taxing a new car prior to the 1st April you would have to buy a dealer built car that has been sitting in a field for the last four months.

Wow, once again those in charge make the choice of keeping what you have a no brainer...

Further to my last post and just a thought as it is not clear on the LR website.

I am assuming that the VED prices shown from the 1st April is also subject to the additional £350 per annum (for a vehicle priced at £40k and up) for the first five years, ie that £960 is in fact £1,310 each year for five years Shocked Shocked Shocked

Please correct me if I am wrong......

I think the higher rate is a one off luxury goods rate in year one. It’s then £350 per annum for first 5 years and then defaults to standard VED for the CO2 in that tax year. 1951 80" S1 2.0
